Getting into Nursing School

As for all of you who don't know getting into Nursing School is not easy at all. There is a high demand in nursing due to the shortage of nurses. When applying nursing school, they pick students with a high GPA, obviously nursing schools pick the best of the best of the best. You wouldn't want someone who got through nursing school with all D's would you? Well as for me, I currently go to a 4 year institution. I am going for my BSN, it took me about a year and a half to complete my pre-requisites. I decided to attend a private school because there was not a wait list at all. Although there was not a waiting list, it was still pretty tough to get through. I had to take the NET (Nursing Entrance Test) and needed a minimum of 65% to pass. I passed it with a 77%. I just finished my first year of nursing school and I am starting my second year (Junior year) this fall. When you applied to nursing school, what was your story? How long did you wait to get in nursing school? How long did it take for you to complete your pre-requisites? did you have to take an exam before getting in? How long is your program? Lets hear your story.

My wait for nursing school for LPN was about 18 months. During that time, I crammed my pre-requisites and worked full time at a nursing home. The actual program took about 11 months. I would have had to wait a few years for the RN program. But now, I am an LPN and loving it. Even after you finish your classes and pass the NCLEX exam, there is still so much to learn! It can be overwhelming. Now, I plan on continuing in January to start my pre-requisites for the ADN program. I should get into it in August of 2009. And then another year. This sure does all take time, but in the end, it will be so worth it!
