Okay, so it's past time to go to the grocery store. All the snacks are long gone and tonight I was really hungry for something sweet. The temperature has dropped enough to heat up the oven without running the air conditioning so while making supper I come up with the idea to make some turnovers. I don't have any crust, don't have any pie filling or fresh fruit (one plum wouldn't have done it) but I see some peach preserves in the refrigerator. I whip up a pie crust, roll it out and form it into squares, filling the center with peach preserves. I pinched the edges, and popped them into the oven then sat down to eat supper while they baked. The first time I checked them they looked great, the second time I could smell this awesome smell filtering through the air so went in to see how they were coming along. The preserves were obviously not intended to be heat for they were seeping out of the crust, boiling onto my nonstick pan. The crust was still white, so I left them in just a couple of minutes more. In those few minutes they had boiled out of the crust, baked onto the pan and had spilled over unto the bottom of the 400 degree oven and now smoke was starting to come up from the bottom of the oven. I quickly removed them and left them to sit on the pan to cool, then sprayed some oven cleaner on the spots that were quickly turning dark brown on the oven floor. Five minutes later I went to remove them from the pan and they were stuck! I mean stuck. I grabbed a metal spatula and begin trying to salvage some of them but most of the edges broke and peices of crust went flying across the kitchen. What little I did salvage I placed on the cupboard and frosted with a thin glaze. Of course I had to try them. They are okay but I would never make them again. Now I have to clean the oven, scrap and soak a nonstick pan and for my treat later tonight or tomorrow, pick pieces of what should have been a tasty treat out of the cookie jar! Have you had a cooking tragedy? Something you tried and failed at that left a mess or went in the garbage? This won't happen again but it brings to mind a recipe for stove top stuffed meatballs that the dog wouldn't even eat! Share your stories!

I once tried making peanut brittle (shudders). I still have nightmares about that one. I decided it was better to buy it then to even attempt it again. Have a good day!! AT PEACE WITHIN

Peace to you too....your experience kinda sounds like when I tried to make lefsa. It was a nightmare and took six weeks to get all the flour out of my kitchen!
