Justice for Jessica

Some measure of justice was achieved today when child rapist/murderer, Richard Cooey was sentenced to die for the murder of little Jessica Lunsford. I have followed this case due to two reasons. There is a local connection-her father is from the area where I live, and the heinous nature of the crime. They were living in Florida when this horror occurred. The crime was committed by a child predator who lived in their community. After searching for days, the child's body was discovered buried in a shallow grave where this criminal resided. Justice may have been served, but there is still much work to be done as far as protecting our children from these sick predators.

It Just doesn't seem right that they are released and allowed to harm or kill another child. There ought to be something more we can do.

There are some legislators who are working on it, Aurone. We must contact our representatives and let our voices be heard on this issue.

He is an animal, without a doubt, rev, and should be treated as such. I say, let the punishment fit the crime.

Yes, gabs. I think there is a special place in hell for those who commit these acts against innocent children.

I couldn't agree more sweetheart - a child abuser walked free from court here the other day even though he was convicted a judge handed down a suspended sentance! The man's (I use that word very loosly) own sister was outraged! I believe that anyone who abuses children like this should be left to rot in prison and the judge who let this guy walk should be put on trial himself and never be allowed to preside in court again! xxx

You are right, mummymo. Any judge that would allow this kind of scum to walk free to hurt other innocent victims should either be disbarred or jailed themselves.

She was buried alive. She was only 9 years old. Any time someone commits a crime against a child, they need to be killed. Right there, on the spot. Over and done with. Free up the court system, free up the jails & prisons. Anyone who commits a crime against a child is not useful to the Universe, let alone society. Keep killing them until they get it through their skulls that children are to be cherished.

You said it much better than I could have, rowantree. Justice should be served up swiftly in these cases.

So glad to hear that justice has been served. Justice is quite fast in your country. You must have a good justice system. It's very sad here in my country. Your people are very lucky.

The wheels of justice do not always turn so fast in our country, Euphrosyne, but they do eventually grind exceedingly fine.

I still have to wonder where the parents are when children are harmed. Yet another child living on a farm near here drowned in the family pool the other day. If his parent/s had been watching him he would be alive. Don't tell me 'you can't watch them 24 hours a day', I'm sick of this excuse when parents are neglecting their children and the kids are being harmed or killed.

I agree...although I think the punishment should be swift and severe. I'm really thinking we need to bring back public hangings. I think after a few of these ppl would think twice before doing alot of things they are doing. Have a good day!! AT PEACE WITHIN

I've been somewhat following the story as well and watched on Friday afternoon as the creepo perv was sentenced. I wanted to jump thru the TV and strangle the judge for the half hour reading of the horrific details of the abduction and murder while the poor family of the child sat there waiting for the sentence to be read. It's just so horrible and I cannot imagine what it must feel like to be Jessica's father and family. It's been nice to see Mark Lunsford grow the way he has. Heckuva a way to have to grow though. Seems like such a nice guy. Very sad.
