Good news for my fellow countrymen, it will finally push through. Our own ocean park here in the Phillipines will soon open before Christmas at the former Boardwalk area along Manila Bay. A new place to visit in time for the holidays. Can't wait to see this. What do you think?:-) By RAINIER ALLAN RONDA The Philippine Star A P1-billion marine theme park will soon make a big splash at the former Boardwalk area along Manila Bay. The theme park will include a “tunnel walk” through a giant aquarium."The former Boardwalk area is now the site of busy construction activities for the much-awaited Manila Ocean Park, scheduled to open to the public on Dec. 15 this year. Manila’s very own “Ocean Park” is envisioned to rival those in Hong Kong, Bangkok, the United States and other places that have become certified tourist attractions. The construction of the proposed Manila Ocean Park is being supervised by the Singapore-Chinese firm China Oceanis Group Ltd., which plans to have a two-level oceanarium and a “Concourse Plaza” that will serve as a bazaar and restaurant by the end of the year. Poon Choon Hai, the construction head of the Manila Ocean Park, has expressed confidence in meeting the target completion of Phase I of the project by yearend. “We are on schedule,” Hai told The STAR in an interview. Hai revealed that the acrylic fish tank for the 25-meter tunnel walk wherein a visitor can walk through and see fish and other sea creatures swimming above, is already in place. “The work is progressing very smoothly,” Hai smiled. “We think that the park would be a pleasant Christmas surprise for Filipinos,” he said. The China Oceanis Group boasts of expertise in marine theme park construction development, having constructed a total of five such landmarks – four in China and one in India. The group was behind the construction of the Chong Qing Xinao Underwater World, the Qin Huang Dao Xinao Underwater World, the Tai Ping Yang Underwater World and the Nanjing Underwater World, all in China, and the Sahara Star Hotel in India. George Lim, curatorial head of the Manila Ocean Park, is excited, saying the Manila Ocean Park will be unique since it will feature the Philippines’ diverse marine life. “We’ll try to get all the best ones that can be found in Philippine waters,” Lim said. http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/storypage.aspx?StoryId=88093

I've seen an oceanarium before when I was in Japan, and the view was absolutely beautiful, seeing marine life up close first hand. This is great news, being able to see one right here in our country.

That's great when did they start construction? It's just too soon and too good to be true, I'm just worried how deep and safe is it going to be.

That might be nice, but maybe the money would better be spent to help the thousands of Philipinos living in the streets of Manila. Sorry to dampen anyone's enthusiasm, but President Arroyo needs to do something to help the poor people in her country. I remember visiting a park over by the Airport, and it was easy to see that once it was a beautiful park, but because of a lack of money, it was in shambles.

Yup, the bar along Manila bay are gone its only a park now, It saddens me too for I also frequently goes there, and when I have foreign guest I bring them there and they liked it also. The park is not funded by the government and I think they should use the revenue that will be generated from this park to help the one's you've mentioned. "The Manila Ocean Park project is a joint undertaking of Singaporean Malaysian, Chinese and Australian investors led by the China Oceanis Group Ltd." Manila Times The park near the airport is Nayong Pilipino, I think they relocated it I'm not sure if its already open. Thanks. :-)

Let just wait and see if this will come true. And I hope it does.Having a oceanarium will help our tourism and we can now compete with other countries that have these kind of attraction.

That is great news as I really love sea creatures. Seeing them here in Manila would be great and hopefully they could make one that is as great as the one abroad.

Yeah I already heard it before but I hoped they manage to do it with nice supervision and with safetyness so that If It will be opened on public people will not might afraid to visit it. Just like what the mall of asia is talking about that the foundation of the mall is so weak and it may happened anytime that it will crush in just a little earthquake.

Hi eprado! That is great news. I have seen Ocean Park and has attracted so many tourists and that will boost our economy if this will materialize on time for the Christmas holidays. And it will attractmore tourists because we have a lot of beautiful marine life that can only be found in our waters. I just hope it would be affordable for many Filipinos and not for tourists alone. I hope there will also be some kiddie rides too. Thanks for this information. take care and have a nice day!

I think it would be pointless to take animals from their natural habitat just to put them in a box. Parks like these are good but people only mostly consider economic benefits of the establishment. I think we are in the age where we can no longer just think of economics, we also have to think of long term effects. Do they have enough experts (scientists, handlers, vets) to take care of the animals. Are they going to follow restrictions for keeping these animals. Zoos and parks should now be more than just an exhibit, they have to be for education and have to point out the importance of conserving and protecting these species, not just showing them for a fee.

hmp.. there might be hired experts for that case.. ;) they wont risk such a big money without considiring the safety of the animals.. and maybe in dangered sea animals will be saved by the project...thay will soon be mating on that aquarium and the number such kind living in this world will increase.
