Any idea, why Ajit Agarkar still plays for India?

Looking at yesterday's Agarkar's performance and also as one who has traced his career over the last decade, it is surprising to see how this guy still get's picked to play for India. His career started brilliantly and he was the fasted to 50 wickets, but then things started to fall apart for him and it became clear that he cannot lead the Indian attack. Also, his lack of winning mentality and consistency meant that he was not good enough to contribute consistently for India. So, the question comes, how does still manage to get selected to play for India? No wonder, a lot of younger talent are leaving BCCI and joining ICL, when they see the likes of Agarkar playing and probably others who should have been playing for the country cooling their heels!! Any comments!! Cheers! Ram

Well you have hit the bull's-eye even I feel the same. If you look at his career he must be the only player in our Indian team who caught more chances to prove than any other player about his abilities. He made a more comebacks than the number of times he was selected for his performance. And he is always bowler who is not very economical and very rarely does he contribute with respect so if you are looking for an all-rounder than I do not think he is at all the proper candidate for the same. We had a very good all-rounder but our Indian coach totally confused him about his role and I think this is his achievement that right now all round has completely forgot on how to bat on how to ball. This is a very pathetic situation and I should think our Indian selectors should give him a chance to make a comeback instead of ajit agarkar

The worst thing is that when we depend on him to lead the attack, that is when he bowls at his worst and simply seems to give up!! Cheers! Ram

The reason why he still plays is because he has the "experience" tag attached to him. He is the most experienced ODI bowler for India. The way he started his career was immaculate, in the first few years his performances were sensational, with him being the fastest to reach 50 wickets in ODIs. From there on, he could no more be a great bowler he showed the signs of, he became an underdog, but his terrific start to the international career fetched him more chances and somehow he has managed to be a part of Indian team till TODAY!! Truly, he has gotten more chances than anybody else in the team. Luckily, he is in INDIA, or else he would be dropped a long back.

I absolutely agree with you. I mean for the number of matches that he has played he should at least be able to come up trumps against the new young players. But he gets hit even by them. I have rarely seen him use his brains on the cricket field either while batting or bowling. Having played at the under 19 level myself, I feel there are places any guy who has played at three levels lower than international cricket would be able to think through, but Ajit Agarkar just drops his shoulders and is a pain for everyone involved!! Cheers! Ram

When I first saw Ajit Agarkar I was so surprised that how can he bowl but he proved a very good medium pace bowler with a very unique run up. His run up is more unique than Shaun Pullock. His both shoulders almost touch each other while he starts up running before bowling. Overall he is a good bowler but in cricket there must be consistency which he is not giving India. I didn't know that Ajit Agarkar has joined Indian Cricket League (ICL). I wish him good luck on every tight corner of life and his career.

Ajit Agarkar has not joined ICL otherwise he would not be playing for India in the current series. Cheers! Ram

Indian crickets r pretty good at making records... but they fail when exactly India need them to play. Agit Agarkar is one of them...

What do you mean by not showing confidence in him? He has been playing day in and day out for the last decade despite mediocre performances. Compare him with someone like Powar or Laxman who have been dropped time and again even after a good performance!! Cheers! Ram
