How many pairs of clean animals did God instruct Noah to take into the Ark?
(a) 2 (Genesis 6:19, 20)
(b) 7 (Genesis 7:2
But despite this last instruction only two pairs went into the Ark (Genesis 7:8-9)

Seven. The NIV translation states 'two of every' in verse 2, but simply 'pairs of [animals]' in verse 8. It can quite easily mean that the animals entered the ark in pairs.
