My husband has been working for a company in wichita kansas American Builders , and 2 of his paychecks has bounced. Now his bank account has a negative 700 dollars balance.I am so stressed out over how we are going to pay the rent and the bills. Has this ever happened to any of you?

Wow, this is an old discussion, but I hope you've gotten it all resolved. I worked for a home builder once - in the accounts payables department - and I can remember having to hold contractor checks because the money was tight, but they always made sure they had money for payroll. They can actually get into a lot of trouble for bouncing payroll checks.

Sorry it took me so long to get this answered , I have been just in and out on mylot for the last few months and just now getting back into it again. Yeah we got it all resolved . I know how money can be tight for the contractors as well but i think I would have been better able to deal with the situation if they would have just said that they didnt have the money to cover payroll. Instead of messing up the bank account so badly by giving him hot checks 3 weeks in a row.

Either they have a very bad accountant or the guy is not turning the money over to the banks (banks, in this case). Or in this case his old friend from Greensburg has been getting too big a cut. You know how his old friend is after the dealings that our family has had with theirs. I hope to see him soon so I can rip him a new one and you know what the one is that I will rip him. I may be sent to jail in Kiowa conty for the things I say to him because I will say them in front of the whole town of Greensburg.

You don't want to go to jail in Greensburg even if they had one there. They may forget you in a tornado and leave you to ride it out in the cell. Then have an oh well attitude about it when you confront them.

That is awful and I would be sure that they were covering the expenses that have incurred because of it. Why would a company paycheck bounce if they have an accountant. Talk with the bank and see if they will take away any of the charges a lot of time they will.

I couldnt figure out why the checks would bounce either with having an accountant.especially just after recieving 20,000 to do the work on a single house in Greensburg. As well as 11,000 for another house. I did notice that there is 2 seperate banks the checks are being drawn on.

That is too bad. He works to support his family and then his paychecks bounce. I would see if I couldn't get the bounced checks back from the bank and take them to the bank that they were written on. What has American Builders had to say - if anything.

We have been in contact with the accountant for the company, he is supposed to be sending a replacement cashiers check to cover them . But i dont know if they are going to cover all the charges that have heaped up because of the overdrafts they caused.

In some states any check over $200. is a felony. To bad I didn't think of that and you could have pressed fraud charges on him. Wouldn't have gotten your money that you needed badly but maybe would have taught them a lesson. Since a lot of other employees checks did the same thing. All together something might have happened to them.

Robbie did call the lawyers and they were going to write them a letter about it . I think maybe they got it and that was why he got the money to cover the overdraft charges that was caused by the hot checks.

Oh dear, sorry to hear that Jean. One thing to do is to keep good records and check your account (online) often. Hope you get through it. I've never had to deal with the situation you described. I'm rather meticulous with my dealings.
