Micheal Vick: People vs. Animals

The Vick trial has everyone watching and calling Micheal Vick a "dog killer". A trial where a man is being put in prison for gambling and fighting dogs. However, if you look at the historical cases of professional sports you see other cases that question the punishment and final outcome of this case. For example, the O.J. Simpson case, the Leonard Little case, and the Jason Williams case. You have three murderers who just happen to be professional athletes and have killed human beings; yet, they have not served a day of prison in their lives. Yes, maybe they had their careers tarnished or maybe fined but Micheal Vick has not only have been fined and his career tarnished but Vick is serving time in prison now for fighting dogs. O.J. kills two people and is on the golf course weeks after the trial. Leonard Little killed someone while drunk behind the wheel and never served a day in prison. Jason Williams shot a man in the face with a shotgun and nothing. Micheal Vick kills a dog and has to serve a year in prison plus pay over 200 million dollars. So I pose the question: who's life is more important the human or the animal?

That's a good point. It will be intersting to see what happens. I guess in the other cases, they just had really good attorneys and they were able to establish reasonable doubt? I imagine because the dog killing is a lesser crime, than it might not be defended as vigorously as the murder of a person would be. That might cause him to actually serve more time, ironically. Intersting comparison. Great topic.

Many people have brought this up. I believe that people see animals as innocent creatures, and although it is not right for one person to kill another, we have more sympathy for animals. Animal cruelty is a hot button for most people. I get so mad at Michael Vick and the fact that all of those idiots are getting off on deals, that I wish I could sue for emotional distress. They all should be treated just as those animals were (Maybe if we had rules like this no one would abuse animals!) Now with DMX being raided for animal cruelty and 12 pit bulls being seized needing immediate medical attention, this will stay in the news even longer (which is a good thing). (http://www.kpho.com/news/13970298/detail.html) There is an article on time.com (http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1655757,00.html) that brought up this topic. There have been more internet hits on the animal food contamination than on the toy recalls. Is it because people care more for their pets, or do more people have pets than have kids?

As a human being I always like to protect human interests; though i love animals and always try to understand their feelings. But the plight of a youth to suffer imprisonment simply because he had killed a dog cannot be justified. I feel more angry thinking about those culprits who r left to enjoy their criminal activities while these silly cases get serious attention from the public. I really feel sorry for Michael Vick and i'll pray for his early release.
