How do you tell the truth, yet still remain polite?

I'll tell you my secret that I created for my mom. My mom is a really great cook, like anyone though she has her bad days. Or maybe its not my cup of tea - not to my taste. She's cute though, she's older and she asks constantly through out the meal - is it good? Do you like it? Isn't it delicious? Now depending on the person, if its not to your taste you can politiely say something like, "The presentation is wonderful, as is the cook, but this isn't my kind of dish. " My mom though, takes this to heart. So I came up with this...I say, "This is so wonderful!" In my head I'm continueing - that you made this for me, that you invited me over, etc. What do you do?

lol, It's all in the tone and in the wording. If it was like only one thing I liked out of the meal i'd say "those mashed potatoes were good". The person then knows you liked something and most likely won't keep asking you if you like additional items.

Unless its my mom - she asks about every single detail - and she asks over and over! Thanks so much for your input - good to know you too, try to speak with tact and diplomacy. Although, I think I caught a hint of that here, on mylot.

I always have to watch myself b/c a couple years ago I started being more outspoken and saying what is on my mind and sometimes ppl don't want to hear the truth so I have to watch what I say most of the time. Thats one good thing about MyLot...I can always backspace. :) HAVE A GOOD DAY!! AT PEACE WITHIN
