My son is 13 months old and we live pretty far south, so it gets hot. He had the most beautiful, thick curly black hair; but I had to cut it yesterday because he gets so hot and won't stop pulling out his braids. I did it when he was sleeping and now he no longer looks like my little baby; he looks like a big boy! I couldn't stop bawling yesterday and every time I thought about it today, I'd get misty, even at work. What was your kid's first haircut like and did you regret it?

I know what you mean...with my oldest son, my husband and I cut his hair the day he turned one, just because his hair was just out of control. With my youngest son, my husband trimed it a bit (at 13months) to make it even and I was fussing at him for that. Mothers will always have some type of reaction to these type things because we are so emotionally tied to our little ones. You'll get used to his new look, I'm sure his still cute as can be.

My mom had a similar experience with my baby brother when he turned 1. He had a head full of hair, and didn't want too many folks in it, so with that, my mother decided to take him to the barber shop to get it cut off. Well, she took him, and got him in the chair, and it took like seven men to hold him down to cutoff his hair. my mother cried that night too. She was hurt but today, he's bald headed and 43.

lol...i remember cutting my first sons hair. It was so soft and it curled at the ends. There was so much on the sides that people kept mistaking him for a girl. Well, its tradition in my family to cut your baby's hair on the 1st birthday no sooner. So when my husband took a buzzer to my son head..i was devastated at the hair falling to the floor. I did save some though. But it worked out. It was summer and it was hot. Now my sun always has to get buzzed. His hair is so thick and he sweats so much. My youngest retained his soft, wavy hair and took more of my side on hair. It's a little long now and curls at the ends...he looks so cute...but I know we eventually have to cut it. But I know his curls will grow back.

Don't worry about it. It will grow back. Hell my hair was about 4 inches from my waist about a month ago and I cut it and donated it to a charity under the same premise that it will grow back.
