It was reported on the Drudge Report that actor Owen Wilson attempted suicide today, however rescuers got to him in time. The question naturally was, why would a top box office star do this. It is not out in the major media yet, but it will be soon. Speculation says that it might have something to do with his recent breakup with Kate Hudson. This is very sad. I'm just glad they got to him in time.

John Belushi - The eyes tell it all. So full of sadness.
It's hard for us "plainfolk" to understand why a celebrity would try to and often succeed in taking their own life. After all, we think they have it all! It just proves that fame and money do not secure happiness. They have a dark side that perhaps they keep to themselves instead of getting the help they need. Especially the comedians like Chris Farley, John Belushi or Lenny Bruce. Funny men to the rest of the world but deeply troubled individuals. PEACE

"After all, we think they have it all!" - naw...I'd never want to have to go through the crap they do just for a fat paycheque...its not worth it IMO...As far as I'm concerned they really have nothing BUT that fat paycheque..they have no privacy, crap love lives more often than not, fake images to keep up with, phoney friends etc etc...not something i desire or envy at all... "They have a dark side that perhaps they keep to themselves instead of getting the help they need." - I dont think that its a dark side any different to anyone else (non celebs) really...its just that they CAN'T really go to anyone in confidence for help cause lets face it, who can they REALLY trust...I mean you have everyone from scorned family and friends to surgeons to nannys and drivers etc etc spewing the beans for a few thousand $s and 15 mins of fame ya know... Its gotta be a really crappy life to life being a high profile person like that...whether its a movie star or royalty or whatever....Id hate it without a doubt!!

Ravenlady, I know they don't have it all. Their fame sets them up to be scrutinized in a way I would not like. I like my privacy and celebs don't seem to get too much of that. PEACE

You are right, fpd. They go into it knowing that their lives will be an open book. They are always under public scrutiny. These are major questions they should deal with before they become famous. There are some who manage to keep their private lives mostly private. I would not like to feel that I am always under the microscope.

The comment made by Oreo was right on,geretzki. We cannot go through life being afraid to show our emotions. We just have to learn to deal with rejection if it becomes an issue.

We never know what the stars are going through. What with the lack of privacy in the personal life and all. That would b a bad kind of life to my way of thinking. Money can not buy love and happiness. My niece who was and even thogh is in mid 30's is a model and bit actor, has found that out. She was never a real big name but made a sizeable sum. Her sister who is a bus driver for the school of the town she lives in here in Kansas and also drives a semi tractor trailer rig part time and to me is a beautiful woman, is happy with her life. She has the looks and the talent that she could have probably went further than her sister but the happiness is the important thing to her.

It all comes down to the roads we choose in life, nana. I do believe that it takes a special kind of personality for a celebrity to be able to cope with that lifestyle. It is no career for the timid or thin-skinned person.

According to CNN, the reason for hospitalization has not been announced and won't until later today (Monday). I wouldn't think it is related to break up with Kate, that was some time ago.

I got my information from Matt Drudge who is always on the cutting edge. Most of the top stories are broken either on his website or on his radio show. You can take anything you hear on Drudge to the bank! In fact, it was on his show hours before it hit the mainstream press.

Hard to figure why a person with so much going for them would want to do something like this. I guess money and fame aren't enough for some people. To attempt this over the loss of a mate is absurd. This guy could get any number of girls to pay attention to him. It may be sad, but not for the normal reasons.

I don't know all of the facts in this instance, sigma, however, I do know that he probably has some issues that go deeper than just a breakup with his lover. Maybe that was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

I heard that some actors are manic depressives or are suffering from depression. Also that some of the medications they take on doctor's orders may increase that depression. They try to hide their illness behind a brave facade, being comedians, taking numerous acting parts, but soon it catches up with them. They also think that they can solve problems just as the characters in their movies can, and then when they find that they cannot, break down or people expect too much of them. I hope he gets the help he needs and the right medication.

You're absolutely right, suspenseful. Being a public figure does not exempt one from the devastation caused by depression. Sadly, there comes a time when anyone afflicted with this disease must seek help. He is now receiving that help.

Me too. Owen Wilson is a good actor, its horrible that he could feel his life is that bad. Or that anyone would feel like his/her life was that bad.

Don't I know. I have also been there myself. Its a very lonely dark place to be. I wish no one to experience the path where I have been.

Yes, Aurone, but, having been there myself, I can relate to why he did it. Depression will take all rational thought from your mind and replace it with negativity.

nowadays its very difficult to believe whats true and whats not true!! and i really am reluctant to believe the media.. they have an uncanny way of twisting the truth! and as u said, its difficult to believe that own wilson who is quite a famous actor, would decide to end his life just becoz he broke up with kate hudson!!

I have adjusted my previous statement, noel, because I do know that depression is no respecter of persons. I only want to add that his problems more than likely go much deeper than a breakup. Maybe that was just the tipping point.

I'm also glad they got to him in time. I'm a huge fan. I liked him from the first time I saw him steal lines on, "Meet the Parents." I also had the pleasure of seeing him work up close and personal on the set of, "You, Me and Dupree," where I was cast as a background actor (or extra, if you prefer). I think we should all pray for Owen. He's an enormously gifted actor/writer and he brings a lot of joy to a lot of people (perhaps he needs to be reminded of this).I pray that Owen be healed of the overwhelming emotional pain that he must be expeiencing. We love you Owen; hang in there, buddy!

I agree that we should all be praying for Owen, Hart. He is such a fine actor, and I would like to see him around for a long time. That compliment you gave him is a testament to his talent as an actor.

Why? I guess life with money isn't enough to keep on living. This is a shame, he is a good actor. It is sad to hear this news. I just hope that he can recover enough and get any help that he may need.

I don't think the money is even the issue here, Feona. Depression is a serious illness, and it can affect all-the rich and the poor. Thankfully he is receiving the help that he needs.

I didn't mean it the way it sounded. It is just some people think because someone has a lot of money they are immune to Depression and such..I feel sorry for him and wish him the best. I know what depression is all about and it can happen to anyone....I didn't mean to sound harsh...I apologize..

Yes this is sad and it is nice they were able to stop him doing this. Ofcourse everyone is curious about the reason and the celebrities may have so many different reason it is hard to tell what is actually the cause. Also they may have some career related cause for it? Well, I think it will be out very soon as the media is so much on them, they won't wait for a long to let us know!
