Germany still upset about Tom Cruise

I started a discussion awhile back about Tom Cruise playing Col. Clause von Stauffenberg, a celebrated German who tried to assassinate Hitler in 1944. The German government objects to Tom Cruise's ties to Scientology. They are still upset and are not going to allow film crews to film at German military sites as long as Tom Cruise is playing the part.

Hi Estherlou, yes, i followed the news about it, and the thing is that not only the German government minds Tom Cruise playing the role but many people working for various organisations there too. I think personally that it is rediculous, but whom am I, besides, i am not German, so there is nothing any of us could do, unless we live in Germany and know enough of people who would be willing to sign some kind of a petition and send it to the parties concenrned with the matter.

The Germans will not allow filming at the socalled Bendlerblock which is the site where Stauffenberg was shot. The complex now houses offices of the Defence Department. Attached see a link stating it is Stauffenberg's 72 year old son who objects to Tom Cruise playing his father. He is afraid the film will be "horrible kitsch". He also does not like scientology. He believes it is a business and not a religion. In my opinion he is right on that point. Scientology was created by a scientist. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/07/01/1966761.htm
