Regulating the Internet could become a hot-button issue in the 2008 campaign

Net neutrality legislation woulroadband providers from charging some content providers more for access to so-called "fast lanes" on the Internet. It gives the government an opportunity to begin regulating the internet. Supporters say neutrality protects the Internet from forces that would discriminate between those who can afford to access the internet and those who can't. Opponents say that's not a problem and that so far there's little evidence that providers are discriminating in pricing and service. The Critics say the proposed law is nothing more than a clever ruse to give the federal government regulatory authority over the internet. The main Democratic candidates FAVOR the legislation and the main Republican candidates are against it, for the most part, and are finding support from Amazon.com, Microsoft, and Yahoo. Hmm...interesting...something to watch for.

Of course they want to regulate the internet...especially the democrats who want to control every facet of your life like every other socialist does. Just what part do they hope to regulate?... because American jurisdiction ends at our borders. I would have though that any thoughts of regulation would be futile as the internet is worldwide. What they are after is an additional revenue source...something that they can slap a few more taxes onto, as if the taxes we pay for the phone service is not enough. The only other thing I can think of is that they want to limit what we as users have access to, such as is occurring in some of the communist countries....any such attempt would violate the constitution and the idea of a free exchange of thoughts and ideas.

This is scary. I think the government will try to tax the heck out of it or let the big companies charge just to get inot the Internet. The Dems want to regulate our lives into non-existence and the Repubs want to restrict our everyday freedoms. Government has gone way too far in trying to keep its citizens under its heel. The Internet is one of the last free things that people can choose to enjoy or not. The government should just leave it alone and let the users control it.
