Pay less and keep the job?

Some experts have proposed a "working sharing system",according to it ,the employees will not be laid off.Instead,the company will cut their working hours and pay them less money ,do you think it's a good suggestion?

When I was working they tried to do something like that but it was very unpopular so the next best thing was to offer people part time work so two people can sort of have one job, I worked part time for about 5years, I had less money but I loved working four and half hours a day then I came back on full time, I don't think too many people would be happy working the same amount of hours for less money...
