Recently, my daughter has started sneezing everytime she plays with her stuffed animals and stuffed toys. And, I'm concerned that the toys might be a bad case of dust mites. Does anyone know how to remove or kill dust mites from a child's plush toy, like a stuffed bear? Are there special cleaners that can be used? Would appreciate suggestions.

You can kill dust mites in stuffed animals just by washing the toys in hot water. Unfortunately the hot water in your washing machine isn't usually hot enough to kill the dust mites. It needs to be at least 140 degrees. By placing the stuffed animals in the freezer over night before washing you will ensure to kill the dust mites. I do this about once a month with all of my children's stuffed animals and pillows.

Hi Beauty, I am not sure if the stuffed animals could be washed in a machine, but I do so with my own teddy bears because i ofetn have these in bed with me, and we all know that mites are mostly in our beds. I am unaware of any other way to get rid of the mites and will check often this discussion in order to find out ;)
