Why is chocolate milk more expensive than regular milk?

In our local area, we have to pay $2.99 for one half gallon of chocolate milk. Sure it tastes good, but it's a lot of money for something that is gone in a few glasses or at one meal. I wish it were more affordable! Our family loves chocolate milk, but it's just too expensive to buy anymore. I can't afford $6.00 for a gallon of milk! Do you think $2.99 sounds like too much for half a gallon chocolate milk? Why do you think they charge so much more for chocolate milk than regular non-flavored milk? What are the affordable alternatives when it comes to chocolate milk?

Why not buy Nestlé’s quick and make your own- just add it to regular milk. It’s cheaper that way- and the chocolate lasts longer than ½ gallon. I know my daughter loves chocolate milk from time to time- so we just do it this way. You can decide how chocolately you want it. I know there are times when we buy chocolate milk in the cartons- and it’s too chocolately. This way you add the spoonfuls and decide how you want it. I’m guessing it is more expensive- way more expensive- because it’s a convenience food- Just like rotisserie chicken- how much more that is the regular chicken not cooked.
