Okay, not quite, but It sure does seem like it. Because of this reconfiguration I have lost all of my precious photos..I click on the picture section and a big "X" comes up on my screen and yells at me, saying, "because you were stupid and didn't save the photo's on disk they are longer available." ( okay it didn't say stupid but it should have)..LOL...Nope, he didn't save them to a disk and now my whole world in spinning in circles..All my precious photos of my grandsons, GONE!! The picture of me (sporting the age of 25) with my grandsons, GONE!!! I just read this to my hubby and he is on his knees asking for forgiveness....What should I do? He told me to enjoy it while I can...*smiles*..I am only teasing him but it is a nightmare....I am hoping my daughter has some on her computer or at least saved to a disk or something... Has this happened to anyone else? Please don't be shy, tell me all your horror stories, only if you want to relive them one last time...LOL

Poor old hubby, getting the blame. I'm sure all he was trying to do was help the computer to go faster. Or maybe he was just trying to get mylot off of it, because you spend so much time here, he doesn't get to see you anymore, lol!!!

Well there you go, you were worried about nothing! Actually, hubby probably likes to see you on mylot because he gets to see people picking on you for a change! Not that anyone does, do they?

He didn't mean it on purpose. We laughed about it and guess what? All the pics I lost are right here saved on mylot. Yep, in the kids section. My daughter put them there for others to see and that is how I got them in the first place...As far as Mylot he thinks it is great. He is always on his computer too so we are always together..He says he is used to it...being picked on...LOL

Hi, Feona! I know that you and I had talked about your computer problems and I recommended some anti-virus software but you won't believe what happened this very weekend - power surge! Yes, we had a surge protector but apparently it was not made to deal with the old wiring in this house. As a result, my computer has NOTHING on it, NADA, ZILCH. My son told me that I'm lucky it didn't die altogether but every program, every file is gone...even the anti-virus programs. I have to start all over again. I, too, had photos - wedding photos, grandbabies, etc. that were not backed up. On my desktop is an icon for IE and one for the recycling bin and that's it. Someone sent me a fax today and I couldn't open it because I no longer have Acrobat reader - I can't remember the last time I even SAW a computer without Acrobat! How many times have we been warned to always BACK-UP everything of value? Shamed to say that this is not the first time that this has happened to me - a virus wiped me out before and I didn't have anything backed up. Now, here I go again. This time, I'm using a flash drive to back up every important file, photo and application! Scout's honor! Come on, take the pledge with me - I, Feona, do solemnly swear to BACK THAT THANG UP! lol

I, Feona, do solemnly swear to BACK THAT THANG UP!!!I feel better already. I did get your message about the virus software and I am going to look into it. Thank you for recommending it. I am so sorry this has happened to you too! I was just typing on here a little bit ago and I had moved my chair a little and pulled the plug for the computer right out of the wall. What next? OMG, I don't even want to think about it...LOL

Make him grovel for your forgiveness for a little bit longer! LOL Shame on him! I haven't had that happen yet, but if I don't get my pictures onto a disk soon, it's gonna happen when I least expect it. Then you'll have to share that box of tissues. LOL

Hello Feona1962, My husband is a super smart guy. I bought the desktop and he claimed it is his. He has a laptop and he claimed it is always his. So I don't get to put my fingers on any of those computers. Before he came into 'our life', I kept all the photos there and that including all his photos that we took when we were busy dating each other. As he claims that he is a super IT guy, he just do whatever he wants to both computers. One time when I came back from the office and asked his 'permission' to use the desktop, I realized that he deleted all his photos. When I asked him why, he simply said that he doesn't think that he looked handsome in those earlier photos! I was mad but I just couldn't get mad at him that time. We just married! Arghhhh!!!

Well somthing similar has happened to me. My digital camera..like almost all the others...has a memory card...my memory card has quite a capacity...holding close to 3000 photos at once..so when i first got the camera, i had the tendancy to just to take picture after picture...without uploading any of them to my computer. Well...we had just gotten back from vacation...this being my babys first trip away from home...so only a mother could imagine how many pictures i took...not even thinking twice about the pictures on the camera we then went to the lake a few days later...the lake has a sandy area...kinda like a beach...well...like always i had my camera by my side...taking picture after picture...so we go home...i go back to work from being on vacation...about a week later my daughter was sleeping the in the cuttest position...so of course being a photo happy mom...i instantly saw a picture moment!!...so i went to take the picture and it wouldnt save to the disk. Im thinkin ok...this holds damn near 3000 photos...theres no way i took that many on vacation!?...so i went to put the disk into the slot on my computer....and the disk was all green and coroated!!!...Im guessing when we were at the lake some wet sand somehow got in there....i tryed to clean it off...even scraping the green stuff off...yeah...that didnt work...i even took it to the camera place at the mall to see if they could get the pictures...well...no luck. So there went all my pictures. I was devistated...I even shedded a few million tears (hey being a first time mommy every picture is special!!)...the camera...that never worked again neither...no disk would work in the slot...so....ive learned to back up all my pictures right after i take them to my computer...and even those i back up monthly..because anything can happen!! As great as technology may seem...its NOT 100% reliable!:(... i completely feel your pain Feona!

It's all too easy to forget or delete the precious moment photos stored on our computers. I have lost many in the past. recently I have been saving them to disc so I don't have this occur anymore. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Aww no Feona! Unfortunately I've had to learn that lesson the hard way a couple of times myself. Now I have all my pictures not only on one computer but on my spare computer also. As a double back up I have my super important pictures uploaded to my website. As soon as the folder is full enough they are all going to get burned to a CD. Do you think that's enough backups? LOL! My hubby pulled the number one bonehead computer stunt of all time just a couple of months ago. He wanted to update his bios chip on his computer so he could use his new 300 gig hard drive. He downloaded the update program but didn't read the instructions. In 2 seconds he killed the motherboard. We bought a new bios chip but nothing worked. So we bought a nice used computer for $80 on eBay. It was very nice for the price. He got it formatted and all his programs loaded up and it ran great but he still can't use his 300 gig hard drive. So can you guess what he decided to do? Yep, he tried to update the bios chip on this one too! Again without reading the instructions! So three days after he got it he fries the motherboard on this one too. I sat here in total disbelief. That's two computers made completely unusable in less than 2 weeks. So I took all his birthday money, all our emergency stash and bought him a really nice computer for $400. I got a super deal on it. When it got here and we got it all loaded up, I told him... you better treat this one like GOLD because this is the last one you're getting for a very long time! He now goes by my #1 computer rule... DON'T FIX IT IF IT AIN'T BROKE! It's worked for me. I've been running the same computer for almost 9 yrs and it's still running pretty darn good. He's on his 5th computer in 9 yrs. Who's the smart one? LOL

OH my goodness...He is not very computer savvy, is he?...LOL...Yes, I do believe you have enough back ups now...LOL...I just remembered that alot of the pics I have of my grandsons are right here on Mylot. They are in the childrens pictures section..My daughter uploaded them for everyone and that is how I actually got them and saved them to my computer...That is a really nice thing to remember. I wasn't too worried because my daughter has them on her computer and some still on her camera....My computer is about 5 or 6 years old..

Hello Feona. Sorry to hear about that. My parents computer did the same thing. Once my daughter killed our first laptop I started uploading all of my images to a website. I use photobucket.com but there are many more like flickr.com, shutterfly.com and more. I like it because other people can upload to it as well and you just add it to your account. It's a good idea instead of just backing up your computer - which we all swear to do!!! It just makes the memories more precious!

This is a great idea also. As long as that website is still up and running then they should be safe there...Thank you.

Get an external hard drive, a flash USB drive, a dvd writer and dvds. Back that thing up to all of those sources so they won't be lost. There are also web sources where you can store your precious files. There is even email as an option. If you have something very precious, make a new gmail or yahoo account and save it to there as attachments. It works too. Also try running a search for the photos. Go to Local Disk C and hit search. Enter the photo names if you know them. As for me, there was one time I lost it all due to poor computer design but I had backed up about 90% of my stuff. I was still mad I lost 10% of stuff but it wasn't the end of the world. I was able to carry on from there.
