One of my discussions is getting a little heated

It's the one about Jane Fonda and group putting the ad in the paper to impeach Bush/Cheney. The resulting discussions have been great and very diverse. But one phrase keeps popping up. Many believe Bush has benefited financially by the war or has been "lining his pockets". So...I want to hear some examples of this and where you got the information. I'm always up to hearing good or bad, but I want facts, not opinion. Give me some references please.

I would be surprised if anyone could come up with actual and verifiable facts, instead of the usual rhetoric. While people are looking perhaps they could also consider the Iraq Liberation Act that was signed in 1998 by Clinton and explain the possible reasons why that was a good idea then and why it is not now when Bush followed up on it.

Halliburton has NO interest of any kind in Iraq, they are into oil exploration ONLY. KBR is not owned by Halliburton. So what was Congress' interest in Iraq?... since they approved of the invasion, and Bush would not have been able to send troops without their approval... Finally, what did Clinton gain when he signed the Iraq Liberation Act in 1998? This Act made it official US policy to remove Saddam from office, and the reasons given was because of the threat from the WMD's in his possession. Where are the undeniable and verifiable facts for any of the allegations against Bush? Simple answer...there are none.

I doubt that Bush will need to line his pockets. Most of the Presidents were wealthy anyway and there was no need for any of them, let alone Bush who came from Texas, the State of much cattle and much oil wells. But of course, Bush's morality stands against those who want a president to look the other while the nation goes to hell in a hand basket.

Do you think there is some concrete proof out there? I don't. I see it this way. All the tanks and hummers that we are using need oil. Bush is a oilman. A plus B equals C.

What does Bin Laden have to do with Iraq?

Bravo! Iraq and Bin Laden have NOTHING to do with each other! Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. Our troops risking their lives to find Bin Laden was a noble cause, going into Iraq was a stupid, spoiled little boy's temper tantrum and he won't admit it was a mistake so we're still there and our kids are STILL dying! If ever anyone should've been impeached it's George W. Bush. Will people have to lose every right we have before seeing this? Annie

So let me get this straight. We went to iraq, to get oil to run the machines we sent to iraq? Now we are left with c "bush is an oil man" Osama bin ladens father is a big construction contractor. Does that mean that Osama orchestrated 9/11 so that his father could get the contracts to rebuild the world trade center?

I'd suggest watching Michael Moore's "Farenheit 9/11". His claims are not unsubstantiated and his sources are public record. Very scary movie, by the way.

Very scary and very good! It makes me very angry the way some people belittle Michael Moore as if he and his movies are just a bunch of jokes. OK, he's a liberal, that's no secret but that doesn't take away from the facts he's presented in his films. Annie

I think Michael Moore is a very talented filmmaker. I think he is quite obnoxious and I wouldn't like him personally probably, but I can't discredit the mans talent. I watched Roger & Me many moons ago and I have to say it hit close to home. A few of my family members were laid off and there were quite a few that were similar cases as were showcased in his film. I don't necessarily agree with his political views but he does bring you to think. If he doesn't do more than that, even if you disagree with him, he does make you think and for that I commend him.

I have to agree with you Esther,We should be a lot like reporters and post the resource with the comment so as not to mix fact with fiction. All to often people create rumors out of things they've heard that have no basis in truth. As an experiment a teacher had put all the students in a circle and whispered into the first students ear,Then that person was suppose to whisper into the next persons ear and so on until the end of the circle and then the last person was to speak of the story out loud to the rest of the class. Needless to say the story had changed from it's original. Multiply that by the numbers here in Mylot and then the internet as a whole.Imagine how a story could get changed or interpreted.

As much as I don't care for Bush, I don't have any proof of anything. Then again, I'm not very trusting of outside sources anyway so I would have to see it myself before I'd believe it for sure.

I don't think I need to justify my answer to you BUT this has nothing to do with how much or how little investigating I have done on my own. I was simply saying that I personally have no proof to support or deny the issue in the original question. The reason I do not feel I have any PROOF is because the media, the government and individual people with their own agendas will and always have skewed the truth to support whatever viewpoint they are trying to uphold.

You need proof of what? That Iraq is an oil filled country. Or that Bin Laden has been found.
