Do you use Public Transportation?

Some of my friends are really lazy, and they never use the bus, subway or taxi. Only the taxi when they go out and they want to drink, so they cannot drive. They are stuck to their own cars! Do you use public means of transportation, or do you just use your own car? why ?

Hi, dude! how are you? I've been gone for quite a while. Been busy with my job. By the way, i'm using Public transportation, of course. The fact that i don't have a car, i have no choice. But practically, i would rather use Public Transpo than having you and your car stuck in traffic, that's annoying. And walking is a good exercise as well...so, i do take a long walk sometimes. have a nice day, dude!

yeah, i noticed that you were not around lately. But well if it's with work, then it's all good! means you're doing what you have to do :) Walking is another alternative to the car, for small distances, the best obviously. thanks for replying.

THis is a shame but I'll confess it anyways :) I don't drive. My fault, really. Back home I had my license and my car. THen I came here and there was always one thing or other. I had the permit quite a few times but never went trough the driving exam. A pity really because I really enjoyed driving. I use the public transportation all the time, of course. Hubby sometimes dries me but most of the time it's the public transportation or my bike. MY daughter got her permit last year and will be having her exam soon, and I thought maybe I could do it with her finally, but again my life got a little complicated so I will leave my plans behind again. It has been like this ever since I came here grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Oh well it could be worse I"m sure :)

It's not a shame not to be able to drive, silly. I mean, it's really useful, and i don't know what i'd do without driving, because i love it, but it's not a shame if you don't. My advice? get a license, it's never late.

LOL not really a big shame lightning, but a little one, you see back home we couldn't get a license until we were 21, if we wanted to have at 18 it we would have to have our parents sign some sort of paper that kind of allowed us to "divorce" them in a way, making us of legal age them. I did that. I loved to drive. And then I come here - presumably a more developed country with more opportunities and.... nothing. Always something or other going wrong. (adding to the confession here, but shhh, don't tell anyone , I do drive sometimes specially when we go camping but of course I shouldn't and can't do that often since I have no license and it's not the best idea, but just every once in a while when I really miss it ) I decided I WILL have my license. Just can't figure out when LOL but I will. I'm starting a different phase in my life where I need to start doing something nice for myself, not just for the others - and in the process maybe getting a bit selfish, but I've put myself on the back burner for so many years that I think I deserve it now -. So one of this days, you'll get a message from me telling you that I finally have it :):):)

I used to ride taxi whenever i go somewhere else. However, when I was able to manage and get immuned to heavy traffic and the air pollution, I can manage to ride the jeepney or bus. It is uncomfortable though, but it is ok especially when you are saving money for fare. lol

yep, bus is way way cheaper, specially when you have to drive in a city, where the gas flies on the tank really. And if you take a long time to find a parking place, then even more.

Living and working in London, it makes a lot of sense to use public transport. The tubes are relatively cheap and plentiful, whereas the traffic is so congested half the time the roads grind to a halt, and we also have the "congestion charge" tax to pay, which is designed to stop people taking their cars into the City. Therefore I use puiblic transport every day with no problems, and usually use the tube if we go into the City at night.

I been to london several times and yeah, using a car there is the best way to become broke and crazy lol. Too much traffic, and circulation wages are expensive. Plus you got buses and the tube, so why not using them?

I don't have a car and I never will if I am living in Hong Kong. It's too crowded to have a car and I am tired of all the traffic jam. It's more reliable to use our subway system and we have a really good development of transport system. I feel proud of it and I am a regular in our public transportation system. I don't feel the need to own a car, really.

I don't think driving your own car is being lazy at all. I'm a suburban girl. It's more convenient for me to drive my own car... not to mention that I like control and using my own car gives me the control of when I can leave. If I lived in the city I'd be more inclined to use public transport but when you live in the suburbs it's actually a bigger hassle to try and use public transport. Public Transport is there for the convenience of those who need it, but if you can afford your own transport...then so be it.

True, if you can afford it, go for it...it's something logical..but only from an economical point of view. If you think about not having to deal with jams, or the enviroment, etc..then there are other factors to consider as well.

But convenience is a big deal and in the suburbs public transportation is just NOT convenient. That's why people in the suburbs do things like carpooling. This way they are thinking of the environment by not having so many cars on the road. and a lot of people who live in the suburbs live far from their jobs as they are probably in the city and it's just a fact of life. If you had to take a bus from the suburbs to the city you'd have to drive to the bus station. You'd be paying a fortune by take a taxi to the city and more than likely you'd also have to drive to the subway! So sometimes, you have to look at ALL the factors and not just the environmental factors. You're still Driving to the subway. is that really saving the environment? no cause you're still driving. As far as jams are concerned...taxis and buses don't help the jams. School buses don't help the jams. The amount of vehicles whether public or personal are all causes of traffic jams. I think it's smarter to walk or take public transport in the city and it's smarter not to in the suburbs.

I only used public transportation when I was studying. After I got married I seldom or maybe I should just use the term 'never'. Lol. Personally I think public transportation can be costly because everywhere we want to go we have to use their service if we don't use a car. There are many advantages of using a car. It doesn't have any connection with laziness, to me it is more to convenience and effectiveness. Using a car saves a lot of money, time and effort. With nowadays busy life, we can't afford to waste time, money and effort taking public transportations. Maybe we will use it during vacation just to feel the excitement of taking public transportation. That's how I feel. Thanks.

I prefer public transport than my own car.. Its much cheaper.. Also, the roads in our country are so confusing that I always forget the way to my destination when i am in my car.. But its not like I always use public transport.. I prefer taking my car when I have to go a short distance away, but when I have to go some other state, I prefer public transport...

I still don't know how to drive and I can only use the car when somebody, like my father, would volunteer to drive me around. So, as a result, I used public transportation everyday and take a taxi at least once a day. It is indeed more expensive if I get to take the taxi more than 2x a day which happens frequently. I also use the bus, jeepneys and even the tricyle if it is around. I also find using public transportation cheaper. We won't actually be helping our environment save whatever energy it needs to save by taking private transpo all the time. I actually encourage public transportation.

I very rarely use public transportation! Even before I had moblility problems I very rarely used it as it was not so reliable and if I were going out at night it didn't run well! I can tell you as soon as I get mobile again I will be walking everywhere as long as it is not miles and miles away! xxxx

We use it a lot. in US, we used it as we like to and secondly we had school tranport card, so free transport which saved a lot of $$ and then here we use it as here so many public transport, you don't have to use your car that much and thus it again saves moey for the gas. Then why not? Doing this much work for earnin a little, the how come give the money so easily to the gas station when there is so many transport out there

you followed a good and smart policy, cmsk...and that in the US, where gas is incredibly cheap, whether you believe it or not. You should come to Europe and compare...

I perfer public transportation. In fact,I take bus or subway everyday. For me,its really convenient and comfortable.Although its more and more popular to buy a sedan here in my country,I am not planning to do that.I thought using public transportation is more enviorment-friendly.Besides,its increasingly difficult to find parking places in Shanghai, its true.

No because we don't have any in my area, it's a small town so we can do our own traveling i guess you can say.. IT would be nice though to have something like it but the town just isn't big enough.. Now the next town over from me has taxi's and buses which is reasonable to think about.. So their isn't so much traffic but there alway seems to be anyway when i go there..

I actually love public transit. When I lived in a larger city than I do now, I too public transit even though I owned a car. I'd use my car only when doing large grocery runs and going out of town. Then I moved into a place that was right across from a grocery store, and I didn't need to use the car for that anymore! Unfortunately, I live in a city where the bus system is abysmal. In the middle of the day, some areas of the city only have a bus come by every 2 hours, and then at night there are no buses in some areas between about 6:30 and 10 o'clock at night! And they wonder why no one uses the bus system in this town. It's really terrible. I'm walking a lot more than I used to, which is good. But if I have to go anywhere that's out of walking distance, I have to arrange rides with friends or get there really early or late if I have to take a bus. It's not fun.

Due to present global warming and all it is advicable to use public transport than own car and bikes. Here in southindia it is easy to use public transport in all wy s namely train roadways and canalsby boats. Mostly as we below economy persons use to avail public transport only to go to office or any functions , shopping or visit to family members places. In southindia public transport is cheaper also in all ways also separate deluxe vehicles to richers. Those in our country maximumu users use only public transports than own vehicles only through regular season tickets to travel throughout a month.
