Who remembers the Sand Man?

When I was in Kindergarten the sand man used to come around and put a dusting of magic sand on our cheeks. We had to sit at our table and rest our head on the table and close our eyes. We weren't allowed to see the Sand Man.....Well, the curious 5 year old that I was, just couldn't resist and I touched my cheek to feel the magic dust, but I didn't feel any... Please tell me you remember the Sand Man too! I don't mean the comic character. If you don't remember the Sand Man what do you remember about Kindergarten?

I don't remember much about kindergarten, besides arguing with the teacher a lot. She would get angry because I wouldn't put away my adult level novels (usually horror novels) and play with the other kids, and then finally resort to taking the book away. Then I would calmly explain to her that she was a petty thief and had no morals and should not be allowed to teach children because of this. Of course this would mean I was kept in from recess (which I didn't want to go to anyway) and occasionally sent to the principle's office, where I would berate the principle for allowing teaching positions to be filled by thieves and liars who targeted me sheerly out of spite because of my obviously superior intelligence. Typically at this point someone would call for my parents, who would not come, and I would spend the rest of the day sitting in a corner somewhere being forgotten about, which was pretty much what I wanted. Yes, I know, I am messed up.

*laughs* I was a terror to teachers as a small child. My father had declared I wasn't to be allowed to skip grades, so I was essentially stuck in classes that were teaching things I had taught myself before I started school, and had I been allowed to just do my own thing it would have been fine. However, since the teachers insisted on bothering me and taking my books away, they became my targets. Once, later on in my elementary school career, I caused a teacher a complete breakdown by telling her that she teaching so far the proper level that she was doing actual harm to her students, and she might as well take out a knife and kill them, considering what she was doing to their minds and future prospects. It was a bit harsh, and I felt a little bad about it later, but half the kids in that class bombed out once they reached junior high. So I wasn't wrong either.

It is okay if you don't remember. I just got to thinking about my grandson starting Kindergarten this year and I thought about what I did in Kindergarten.

I remember him, but I was never to fond nor did I believe in him. It was mostly other myths and superstition that I fell for... the boogeyman, counting sheep, etc. But nevertheless, it is nice to remember what we children we're thinking about.

I recall thwe sandman. In my eyes he was a "bad man" as he put children to "sleep". Now I recall the p[iano as well. When the teacher would start playing songs for sing along I would go there and slap the keys as well. She would let me pretend I was good on the piano for a minute or so. Who knew a few years later I'd be playing the accordian in a concert with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Yes I did that. Played the accordian for about 25 years total. I did weddings and city festivals like Octoberfests German Polka Festivals etc. I loved the attention. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Kindergarten was where this 80 year old crabby lady forced us to recite a poem at the end of the day and tell her we loved her while blowing kisses or we could not leave or get a sticker...I never got stickers.

I remember the song of the Sandman, but I've only heard of that story, or similar from someone else. My memories of kindy are few, but one is of milk in little triangular containers. The other was of some poor kid accidently sticking his finger in a fan, and what seemed like lots of blood and screaming! Guess you were thinking this discussion was going to have happy memories!

The incident with the fan happened while the mums were still there, but you should have seen what tortures the teachers subjected us to after the mums had all left, aaaahhhh! No, just kidding, I don't really remember much else, lol! Maybe just as well! I have to say, though, my son does seem to have a lot of fun at his kindy!
