My nephew is hyperactive but we can manage his being hyperactive with tons of books to read and games to play. I will not consider ritalin for my nephew. It is depressing for him.

When my youngest daughter was in kindergarden, the school tried to get her labled as such. I went to meeting after meeting with school oficials, teachers, social workers etc. But I was steadfast and REFUSED. Today, she is almost 17, an excellent student and has never been in a bit of trouble at school. She was simply an active little girl. I think these days ADD is an overused diagnosis, a "catchall" for any type of active child the teacher may have trouble controlling in a class. Parents seem toi use it as an excuse for their childrens bad behavior. I wish parenting was as easy as giving your kid a pill to make them behave, but fact is parenting is HARD WORK. Diciplin and consistancy.
