Why is it so hard to be interesting?

Think about it, there are over 106 thousand people on mylot. Even assuming that a certain percentage are inactive and another percentage just aren't online today or even this week - even if between inactive and offline people that percentage is as high as 50%, that's still over 50,000 people who read these discussions and have an opportunity to respond. And yet, many discussions never get any responses (including some of my own..cough..cough). When you have a discussion with 0 responses, does the thought of not being able to interest even one person in 50,000 make you depressed?

It affected me at one time, but later on realized that it must be because of the less activity I have here. This occured to me long time ago, when we are still at around 40 to 50,000 members. But that's also the time where I see discussions receiving almost a thousand responses in just one day, which I also missed seeing some right now!;) But I think these things happens maybe because of the way we participate here, how active we are and also the friends we have on our list. All I can suggest is, you concentrate first on responsding and establishing good relations with other members here. Go out, make friends and impress people. That way, you'll attract more potential posters and responders on your discussions!;)

Well, I do try to comment when I have something useful to say, and I think keep fairly active here, thanks raijin for the input.

Well it doesnt make me feel so upset or depressed if i havent got any response, even one response despite of the fact that there's a lot of members here can put their comments on our discussions. But anyway, it is not depressing for me, as i don't care if they don't find my discussion so interesting! It doesn't matter for me. Actually, it can also motivate me to work more harder and make a good and interesting discussion next time. But honestly, so far, i dont have any unresolved discussions here. As all of my discussions have their comments already even lets say that some of my discussion has only two comments. It's fine! Have a nice day ahead from Kiko.

Hello Rollo!(",) Don't be depressed too much about it. It doesn't mean that your topic is not interesting but somewhat others could not relate to it that's why they don't make comments. I for one, before had discussions with no replies but now thank God that all of my discussions got responses (even if its only a few, I'm still grateful). Try to make discussions that can relate to others. Another technique also of getting lots of responses is by being friendly, if you have many friends then many will respond to your discussions. You have to establish rapport to the mylot community. Well, good luck to you! As I can see, this discussion of yours is getting responses. Cheer up! Keep on posting! God bless!(",)

That could be my biggest hurdle, lani0529, posting things people relate to. I often have a strange viewpoint and I suppose I mustn't be surprised when others look upon my posts with puzzled gazes. I think I will go along doing more responses to others than posts of my own, and just post when the mood strikes or something seems interesting to me. Thanks for your input.

Hi Rollo1, and no, I am not getting depressed, or discouraged really when i dontget a reply. This gives me or you even more the push to make your next discussion of even more interest to others ;). A good idea might be to go to the Today Hot Topics and see what draws people most for the day, and pick a topic where you are certain you can write a great discussion for, than do it, lean back and wait ;)

It sort of does. Also, some of these people are here for their own reasons, be it help advice or posting non stop about a singular issue. And also, some of our threads get lost in the pile of junk discussions. Just take a look at new discussions or discussions with no responses and see what comes up. Most of it is just hyper posting, others aren't well thought out, and some are obvious copies. Thats a lot of stuff to cut through to get to a discussion like this :)

I truly don't like to see the cut and paste and some are just Wikipedia articles on history or events. I can't imagine what type of response they expect. I also see the same post from the same person show up multiple times. Then, as you say, some are junk discussions with very little thought put into them. Sometimes it seems that only by poking people a little with some outrageous statement that they will all rush over to dispute is the only way to get a lot of attention. But I think that leads to arguments more often than meaningful discussion or debate.
