Countdown to the RWC, how will Wales do?

August 31, 2007 2:24pm CST
Ok guys, just afew days until the Rugby World Cup starts and given the last few performances by Wales how do you think they will fare? I know we had a right drubbing by the English, and I must say that sapped nearly all of my optimism, but it was an experimental and injured squad that was put out, so I still have some hope. Then we narrowly beat the Argentine pumas, a team that we struggle against every time we play against them. The hope I got from that game was how well the forwards played at times against a tough pack. But then the French game, at least we kept the score down as much as we could but what are we going to do against a team like Australia who are in our group. I think the best we can hope for is to get through the group stages (as long as we don't hiccup against Canada) and play for the gane against England in the knockout stage. If by some small chance England come top of their group then we will be facing S. Africa...then I can see that being the end of the world cup for Wales once again for four years. I sound so pessimistic about the whole thing but really I am an eternal optimist, I always believe Wales will bounce back and that the last twenty years each time we have a "setback" we will always spring back and play better. Admittedly we won a Grand Slam not so long back and that did so much for our game...well, we got the wooden spoon the year after, but it gave hope again to the nation. Never mind, come next week, I will be singing my heart out, shouting at the ref and holding my leek aloft with pride. Cymru am byth. J.

D-day is here - the World Cup kicks off tonight. Now the playing fields are level. Forget about the polls and forms, what now counts is how you would perform in each individual game. Let the games begin!
