Help Being Bullied At Work~~~~~~~~~~

I work at our Primary school this will be my third year. At the end of last year my boss asked me if I would be interested in a morning position doing breakfast. I said I would love to do it. As far as I know I was the only one that was asked to do this AM position. I work only 2.5 hours a day. After the school year just started one lady up and quit. We had one retired and one go to a new school. This past week they asked me if I would work the afternoon shift I said ok, but I couldn't on Thur. So now my boss comes to me and tells me that the morning position is just a temporary position and it can go away at any time. Later that day I was asked again to work the afternoon position. Here's the thing if I work the AM position I could be a sub in other areas of the school. If I work the afternoon I can't do this. I really feel like I am being bullied basically if you do what we want. We will keep you in the AM position if you do as we wish but if you don't well sorry that position no longer exists. There are hours that need to be filled because of the holes in the staff because of the union they have to ask the person that has been there the longest. That person is not me. So as it is set up I am really the only one available to fill in those holes but they cant and wont ask me. So I am stressed upset mad and I will not be bullied! So if you dont mind sharing your thoughts with me in this matter. Should I call my union rep?

I agree with jbrooks. It sounds as if you are being bullied. And you should get your union rep involved. You shouldnt be forced into a position that you dont want. If things get that bad maybe you can find a better school to be at. Good luck.

It sounds to me like the morning and the afternoon positions currently are two separate positions. If you are needed now for the morning position why would that only be temp especially if they keep it when you work the afternoon. Yes you are being bullied. If they will keep that position going as long as you do the other it is clearly needed. Sounds like you are being bullied and you do need to get your union rep involved. Perhaps they can give you a perspective you are not aware of.

Well I have prayed about it and I have talked to my hubby I am going to give my two weeks notice. I have decided that I am going to take a risk and be put on the sub list for aid positions. I feel like I will get way more hours that way. I really want to be a teachers aid and I feel this is about the only way that they will get to know the kind of person that I am. They don't deserve me. I am upset with the way I have been treated but I will not present my resignation in that way. All I can say is you mess with the bull you will get the horns! Thanks everyone for your support and advise!

This is a great approch. As much as you would like to please do not burn your bridges. That could cost you. No matter what school you sub for they will want to know your work history. I am sure it is a small risk. Best of luck to you.

I don't know much about the union thing so I am not much help. That would really upset me too though. I wouldn't just let them keep on treating me like that though. I'd do something about it so maybe you should call the union rep and see what you can do. I hope you get it straightened out soon.

Well yes i do believe i would talk to the union rep.It sounds as though you are an excellent employee and should be considered for the job, after all you have been very accomendating to them ,as they keep switching you around and you are doing as they wish even though it may not be your choice, you have done so without gripping about it...Thats the problems now days ,people just do not appreciate a loyal worker and try to push you around.Maybe you are just too nice.I think it is time to stand up and let your wishes be known.Good luck to you,I will be keeping my fingers crossed.

They always seem to be able to come up with some "loop hole" like the position disappearing, etc to cover their arses. There isn't much a union can do about a position being taken away if they say they no longer need the position. I would talk to the union rep, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. Sorry to say a lot of times our bosses have us by the you know what's... :)
