Um, no. In fact I would feel that it was discrimination. I don't think anyone should be fired from their job because of things they do outside of work, unless they have like severe criminal charges against them or something. I think if I worked for a company that I found out fired someone for this reason, I would find a new job, because I couldn't bring myself to be associated with that company anymore.

So you are outraged that Sen. Larry Craig's right to privacy was violated and he should be able to keep his job?

I agree it was stupid of him to plead guilty, then say, "no I didn't"... although there is some question of police ethics there. The thing is though, whether he is gay, bi or whatever, it should be up to him to decide whether or not to make it public. Or should only left wing gays have the right to decide?

he was caught in a public restroom making gestures that the toilet gays know as a come on. The problem is not his orientation but the hypocracy. He has been on the forefront fighting against gay rights; from marraige and civil unions to hate crime legislation. Then he proposistions a man in a public toilet; which, by the way, most gay men do not do. From that point, he refuses to admit that he has done this. He's a hypocrite and a liar. It's not orientation. If he said, "yeah, OK, I'm gay or I'm bi. Leave me alone." That's fine and great. He has denied and and he'll do it again, this time more discreetly. Still makes him a hypocrite.

No. I think anyone can be warned not to be too much of an activist on the job.. But I don't think most activists should lose their jobs, including christian activists! :)

Good answer. Activism on the job can be annoying and get in the way.

Good point, flowerchilde. I would even stand up for those people's rights, as much as they annoy me sometimes! =P

No, and I wouldnt be pleased if anyone were forced out of their job due to any of their beliefs, or lifestyle.Unless they were a part of the klan.

Ah, so you would fire someone, or applaud their firing just because you disagree with their opinions.

I disagree with the Klan, but if they didn't have pictures of lynched black people or if they promoted minorities based upon merit, I couldn't see a reason for them to be jobless, regardless of their personal feelings.

I would be more likely to fire someone if I knew they were slapping on a mask in the night and killing people from the hate they harbour all day long, rather than if Bob at desk one had a crush on Steve at desk two.If any of the people I have mentioned, were honest about themselves and didnt make an issue at work about it, I'd prolly not fire anyone. Cyntrow made a good point there.Still, I'd rather see a gay flag paperweight, rather than a hood slung over the back of someone's chair. If I err, it will be on the side of love and not hate.

No one should lose their job because of any kind of activism, unless it is intefering with their work.

Including a Senator who kept his tendencies to himself... until he was exposed.. then lost his job over it?

I'd say he was an activist... he worked against the issues the gay lobby worked for. How is that not an activist? Besides, yes, I did say activist, but that isn't the entirety of the post... or the issue

Your post is about activism. He was not an activist. He lost his job because his fellow republicans don't want a gay republican messing up the base voters.

If you're asking about Sen. Craig it's not because he's gay it's because he did something illegal! If it was a woman he was propositioning in the bathroom I'd feel the same! lol course a woman wouldn't be in the mens bathroom.

Illegal yes, and that is a good point. However, Barney Frank has done the same type of things, but the gay lobby defend him. If he deserves to lose his job for what he did, then half the people at most Gay Pride celebrations should be unemployed. :~D

He actually was reconsidering his resignation last I heard. I don't watch the news much. It sickens me that this is what it takes to get Idaho in the national news! You're right though. I'm sure there are many senators who have done illegal things and nothing has happened. Heck we had a president who was getting a bj in the oval office and he didn't get impeached.

What kind of nonsense is this!?! No way I wouldn't be happy at it at all! They have the right to their free speech, lifestyle, assembly and protest. Why in the world should someone get fired over rights afforded by our constitution!? Bunch of putz nonsense, all of it!! Grr, you people see this is what I'm talking about when I complain of free speech trespasses!? Slowly but surely people are cutting each other off just because they don't agree, this is completely disgusting! Wake up and learn this isn't correct at all, because soon enough it'll be you on the chopping block. Okay calming down, maybe what you shared wasn't a story but a hypothetical. Real or not I still feel this way.

*laughs* Okay, I was really upset too by this suggested situation, so I shouldn't laugh at you. But I'm giggling because it seems like you get worked up a lot in mylot like I do. I have a punching bag in my living room, and sometimes in the middle of doing my mylotting I'll have to go use it. =P

*nods* I know it's a serious topic, but sometimes I just can't help myself. Oh, I posted on that one about the gay friend too, essentially to say I've been the person people did that to before. It's no fun to have your friends dump you just because people might think they're gay or bi because you are. Bleh.

Well it happens. I posted on an "inner monster" thread so I'll blame it on the inner monster ;p But seriously when rights are being infringed upon, I'm not happy.
