Moving Out (In)

United States
August 31, 2007 9:34pm CST
Me and my friend want to move into together because we both feel like we want to get away from our own houses! We love our families, but we want out! We do have to wait for a while, at least winter break, because of her schooling. But there are other issues...I get 7 dollars an hour and I have to pay for my car insurance. So i'm not sure if that would be enough to help pay for stuff. It might be...but who knows. She gets 8.50 an hour but she only works a few hours a day. I just don't know how to get more money that would make me feel better about this. I would love to sell some of my short stories...but I don't know if they are good enough. And I don't know really how much I could get for them. Realli I'm just venting right now. But if anyone has ideas/tips/suggestions/etc do share! Thanks for listening and caring!

Sounds like you definitely want to leave the nest..LOL If you do want to go ahead with this idea, then the two of you would have to do some serious financial planning...It seems to me that I see an imbalance already..I'm gathering that you work full time now while your friend is only part time...To be fair, whatever rent you're going to pay, it should be one-hundred percent evenly divided--in other words, you pay half and she pays half..that would only be fair...would she be able to do that...then maybe splits on all the utility bills and food, in other words it should be an even deal here As far as selling stories...don't hold your breath..Yes I've had some of my stories published but the "payment" was in complimentary copies of the issue my stories appeared in--I've been trying to get my stories published for cash for about six years and nothing yet...the competition is fierce out there for writers--of course there are always contests...but yeesh, then it's really competitive

As too the writing thing, I already knew that, kind of. Hehe. That's why I wasn't all that excited about that idea ;P My friend has no problem with money. She might even have more than me at this point. At her last job she got a very nice amount of money! We already know we would be splitting the bills in half :) There's no problem with that hehe. Actually, if it works out my friend has a good idea. She'll see if her parents will buy a nice little house for us, and we would pay them rent. Her mother works in real estate, so it's a possibility. If that worked out, it would be a lot of help, if not we just gotta think of something else. Maybe wait a little longer.

I moved out with a friend when we were both just finished our first year of college. It cost a lot of money, and that was a bit stressful. I think it was easier to live with my parents. Of course, it was fun and nice.

since your not planning to move into gether is to find out about what rent and utilities costs. Then set up a budget and start putting this into a saving account with both your names. If you could stick to the budget then you will know if you can afford to move intogether.

You and her sound pretty determined to do this, and I don't blame you. But maybe instead of moving out right this minute, you could make a plan to look for something right after Christmas. For Christmas you could even ask that your gift be money, so it would go towards your new place. And in the meantime, she could save up her money, which kind of scares me because it is only a few hours that she works. I once had a roommate who couldn't make her share of the payments. That was pretty bad. As for your stories, have you every thought about submitting really short ones to Reader's Digest? Or if you have a true story to tell, there is a magazine called True Story, and they do pay for stories too. Do you happen to be a member of MyPoints? I'm not going to list a referral link. I was just thinking, that while you save, you could be racking up points with www.mypoints.com, so when you DO get your place, you could help furnish it with the gift cards from that site. I hope something happens to let you move out when and where you want to. In the meantime, just keep thinking about that goal and it will happen before you know it! : )

We are determined! hehe. And my friends money isn't an issue. She has a nice amount of money from her previous job. And she only works at this one because it is a job for the college she is going to and lets her work and go to school while having her own time. I'm not sure if I would have any really exciting stories for the True Stories magazine. What do they look for in their stories? Lots of action and stuff? I've never looked into Readers Digest either. Do you know how much they pay for a short story and the circumsatnces revolving around sending them one? I am a member of mypoints but I never really got the hang of it. LOl. i'm not sure how it works and stuff like that. If you could clue me in it would be great! :) Thank you!

I haven't gotten my hands on the book I told you about, but I wanted to give you the website for the magazine I told you about, True Story: www2.truestorymail.com/index.asp On the left you will see where you can learn more about submitting your stories. I imagine you write about real stories just as good as you write fiction. I just wanted to make sure you knew about it in case you could make some money out of it.

oh, i wanted to mention about your first few sentences. We are waiting til at least her winter break. None of our parents know we are planning this and she doesn't want to tell her parents until her first semester (quarter?) of school is done! :) So it would be hard for us to ask for money! =D hehe.

well moving out and moving in is not that easy..you must be at least stable with your job or else you will be in trouble..you still got some more to take care off..do you have a descent paying job? full time? if so, then you can do it that easy but if not it will take a while before you can make it happen..you stil have time anyway till winter to get all the money you need..the problem now is how..you can go looking for another part time job if you can it will help you increase chances..as for your stories you can submit them and try your luck..its better you tried than not at all, you would never know if its worth it or not if you didn't try..

Yes I work full time for 7 dollars an hour. I wouldn't be able to get another job with the hours I work, it would be to hard for me, I think I'd go insane lol. Yeah, I have a few months before me and my friend even start looking for a place, so that gives us both time to save up more money! :) Thank you.
