Most experts agree that the best diet is one that becomes part of your overall lifestyle. Bringing portion sizes down to more modest levels and grazing on small meals throughout the day are helpful approaches to eating because they urge a fundamental shift in how we eat as opposed to what we eat. Watching quantity and monitoring portion size are of greatest concern when it comes to cutting down on excess calories, but clueless when it comes to just how many calories make up our favorite meals. According to the rules of portion control your morning muffin should be about the size of a hockey puck. Adequate servings of meat, fish and poultry are no larger than the palm of your hand. Good-sized servings of starchy veggies, cereals, breads and grains are about the size of your fist also. Pasta servings are even smaller.
