I'm back to making my hand-made paper again... it hasn't been very long since I put it on the back burner, but now I realize how much I've missed it!!
I soak then blend the 1/2 inch pieces, stir in my additives, then pour out onto a screened frame. I put a non-woven blue disposable towel on top, press out as much water as I can until its reasonably flat, and flip it onto a hard surface... then I put another blue towel on top and hang it up. The sheets usually dry overnight, so I can have plenty of new and interesting stock to work with after a good night's sleep!
My space is limited, so I always give unexpected guests fair warning when the 'guest bath' transforms into the 'paper lab'!!

I press them very flat, and make sure they're really dry... when I put them on the paper, I use a bit of white glue... the pulp is wet, I spread the glue out to the size of the flower, and I press it in very well. That way, it hardly falls apart at all!

I only soak them for about an hour in very hot water... there is no smell other than the fibers or flowers I add... if that was bad, I would add one or two drops of bleach.
After I blend the paper, I add punch-outs of different colored papers, or glitter, or chopped flowers and leaves... I have even made paper with my dogs' hair in it! It is very strong!(but I made that in different containers!)

I used to have a friend who would send me little note cards that she made from handmade paper. I loved them.
I researched hand-made paper one time and found that all kinds of fibers can be used. It's a wonderful hobby/craft. I keep meaning to try it and end up being busy doing other things. Take care and have fun.
