Who knew Shrimp Boats Delivered Babies? Worst Possible Place to Give Birth?

Some of you might have read about the captain of a shrimp boat deliver his cook's baby at sea. It was just her, her husband the deckhand, and the captain. Even though the child was born feet first, mom and baby returned to land safe and sound. So giving birth in a shrimp boat has to be up on the list of bad places to have a baby. The worst place to me would be church. No way I'd let anyone near me if I went to church with them. Forget it, I'd deliver the baby myself! LOL My question to you, is where do you think the worst place to give birth would be? Men, you can add your input even though you can't have babies. I look forward to reading the creative answers from both females and males.

Mmm I think I have a virtual list here: How about a woman giving birth in either a jammed packed subway or bus during rush hour? Or how about a crowded elevator in a skyscraper and she starts going into labor while the elevator is on the 90th floor? Or during a theatre performance on Broadway? Movie theater?? LOL Why would a church be bad? To me I'd think that be a great place as your on "holy" ground.

Well I don't remember a crowded elevator, but there was one who gave birth in a skyscraper elevator with 2 onlookers. And of course, the elevator stopped working so there was no outside help.

Some women minorities give birth to babies in the forest during raining season. Their husbands have to feed them for about five days. Then they can return after that. I think this is inconvenience for the couple.

Oh yes. In reality a lot of women do not have the luxury of a hospital bed or even giving birth in their own home. Sanitation is iffy, and often the women are left to themselves because the men see it as 'women's work.'

Id have to say on airplane, during a flight. They wont let you fly past so many weeks...34 maybe, but you never know if you might end up in preterm labor or something!

And you just know that your flight wouldn't have any doctors onboard! Maybe they should make the flight attendants have at least a little knowledge in deliviery babies. LOL

Amber, you come up with the best discussions. That is so funny that you do not want anyone you go to church with seeing you...lollllllllllllll....I know what you mean! The worst place for me would be on the floor. I hate dirt. I don't like to feel dirty.

The worst place that I knew from my friend is some woman in the public toilet gave birth to her baby. i feel so bad for the woman. The baby was so unlucky to be born in a toilet where he was not supposed to. I am happy to say that I was born in a hospital, a big one in the city. My mom went to the hospital a few hours earlier to wait for my arrival to this world. I love my dear old mom as always for her hard time to give me birth as well as to bring me up.

I think the worst place to give birth would be in a tent, while you are on a camping trip.A place with one one around except you and your hubby. That would be scary.

I bet most husbands would faint, leaving the wives to deal with it. And then when he would get home, he'd brag to his friends that he delivered his own baby. : )

UGH! On a shrimp boat? Eeeewwww! But I guess they didn't have much of a choice did they? I think for me the worst place would have to be in a public restroom. All of those germs! And who knows how often those floors and fixtures are cleaned? Ick!

As bad as a shrimp boat is, I would definitely agree that a public restroom is worse. UNLESS, you were in a retaurant, and everyone was eating, and, oh wait, I can't take that any further.... : (

When Katrina hit a couple of years ago, I wonder how many expectant mothers went into labor during the storm? There had to have been a few, but I don't recall hearing about any of them.

I have heard of many that were born in taxi cabs.. to me that would be the worst! Think of the audience you might have! And after having three I don't think I want a bunch of strangers watching!

A shrimp boat would be pretty awful. I can't stand the smell of fish or anything like that either. A taxi or an airplane would be pretty crappy too. Could you imagine having to deliver in front of total strangers like that?!

That's why picked a church as the worst place. I'd never be able to look any of them in the face again. It wouldn't matter that it is a natural process or that I couldn't help it, I'd be finding me a different church! Strangers are bad though. You could call out is there a doctor here? And someone could come up and help deliver the baby, and only later you realize he was an escaped convict! LOL
