I read tonnes of blogs every day, and the one thing I hate the most about blogs is when they are so badly written that they make it difficult to read. I'm not talking about little mistakes here and there (we all make those), but I mean people writing with such a poor command of language that nothing they say makes sense. I guess I only think like this because I work in the media, but I hate blogs that are written in bad English. I got so annoyed I even wrote a post on my blog about how to write good posts! Check it out here: http://worldofangel.com/how-to-write-great-blog-posts/ So what annoys you the most when you're reading blogs?

Hi Vanalli, even though I can relate to what you are saying, I also disagree a bit with your vision. According to you a non English publisher shouldn't be writing in English if he isn't good enough in the language? By practicing it by way of blogging however he/she could become better in English grammar, as the best way is practicing while studying. What I do when I come across a blog which is not of my liking - I stop visiting it. This is just like when I meet people that I don't like, I simply cut it there, and never see them again. I do understand where you are coming from, and being in the publishing world makes it even harder to see how your language has been distorted by unfortunate foreign fortune seekers, but think how nice and friendly the world will be if all of us were more accepting and "forgiving". And I appreciated the valuable tips in the article on your blog in regards. Thanks a lot for a great English grammar while blogging info resource :)

Good points. I think the problem is that when I'm surfing new blogs, I surf very fast, so if it's a lot of work to read, I'm not so forgiving. I guess I should learn to be more tolerant, especially because the the increase in blogs written by non-native English speakers. Maybe I'm missing out on lots of valuable information.

I hate blogs' colors that are very bright on the background and very bright on the text. I also hate ones that take forever to load. If it seems like it's even going to semi-lock my browser, I'll exit out of it. I'm okay with bad English, as long as it's not that AlTeRnAtInG TeXt tHiNgg. I hate that.

I've never understood why people do that alternating text thing.

I read quite a few blogs each day too but I don't think I really have any pet hates. Sometimes something may annoy me but if the content is interesting I'll still read it - Probably the only thing that really gets to me is the colours (either really bright text - that almost gives you a headache to look at - or dark text on a darkish background) Of course my blogs probably annoy others to some extent too but for that type of thing it's just personal preference I guess :-)

I also dislike reading blogs that have a lot of misspellings and bad English, but the ones that bother me the most are when people who speak English well (or at least as well as any American does) can't be bothered to take their time to spell correctly or type out words. Netspeak is far more annoying than someone who is trying to write in English but is not particularly skillful with the language!
