The Power of Prayer

I don't subscribe to any organized religion as the price is far to costly. I do, however believe in the power of prayer or meditation. Its the belief, of course that's key here. I am an advocate of the idea of power of the mind - and what an incredible and unharnnessed power it is! Ever hear of the use of placebos or sugar pills? I love reading stories of scientific studies like the following link, where one control group prayed for one patient - and in the other - no prayer - guess which one did better? http://www.plim.org/PrayerDeb.htm So what do you think? Is there power in prayer or meditation? Is it more powerful if a group participates? What's behind this power, is it belief, is it god, is it the univers? Please share links you know of and personal stories - this is an area of special interest to me! http://www.alternativemedicine.com/common/news/store_news.asp?SID_store_news=798&storeID=02AD61F001A74B5887D3BD11F6C28169&task=store_news

The interesting study to do is not seeing if a patient getting prayed for does better or worse than one who does not get prayed for. It is seeing if a patient who gets prayed for by real Christians does better or worse than one who is prayed for by "placebo or sugar pill" Christians.

Obviously you are a nice, non-judgmental Christian eh? Not one to put others down for it is unchrist like to be mean, put others down or be judgemental in any way. Kudos for proving that so well in your post! I just love Christians who purports to be so religious and then puts others down. Yup yup yup. My absolute favourite kinda person. Have a nice day.

Prayer is the best thing for our peacefull mind.in our daily routine life we have so many tensions which make us confused at home r at work to avoid that confusions we should start our day with prayer and end our day with prayer watever it may b our religion but we should pray to god and ofcourse for us too....

I really love your answer. Only it didn't address my discussion. Here, I'll help by cutting and pasting the crucial part: So what do you think? Is there power in prayer or meditation? Is it more powerful if a group participates? What's behind this power, is it belief, is it god, is it the univers? Please share links you know of and personal stories - this is an area of special interest to me! Tell me a story where prayer helped someone get better. :)

I believe in the power of meditation, and in fact, of chanting. The prayers I repeated over and over again as a child are actually a form of chanting. However, I think there is a little more to it than that. I think it is possible for you subconsciously or consciously can reject the prayers of other people. If you feel disconnected from other groups, no matter how much they pray for you, it will do no good!
