I just returned from vacation with my family and experienced some "young"girls making fun of me for no reason at all. They eyeballed my clothing up and down and started laughing and saying,"oof,i wouldnt wear those pants with that shirt!".My boyfriend heard it and my daughter asked "how come those girls are staring and laughing mommy?".I said because they had nothing else to do.There was nothing wrong with what i was wearing at all.I asked them if there was a problem or what! They immediatly left from where they were standing. My boyfriend said i shouldnt of said anything, but hey im not him.Would you say something to stand up for yourself or just ignore them because you dont know them and will never see them again.?

I would have said something to them too. Many of today's youth have no regard for other's feelings and behave in an ignorant manner. If no one puts them in their place, they will never learn..that is, until it is done to them and they experience the feeling of being made fun of for no logical reason.

Yes its true. Most of them havent been disciplined,so they think they can do what they want even with strangers. As the saying goes "what comes around, goes around".:)

People like that are so annoying! I don't blame you for confronting them. I would have had a few words with them, too, and I wouldn't be too friendly about it! Sometimes I think it's best to just keep quiet but people have no right to be disrespectful like that, especially to someone they don't even know. And hey, they might have just felt intimidated by you! Anyway, I hope they didn't hurt your feelings.

Well since this topic is directed for everyone to share their views, might as well give you what I have in mind!;) Since I'm a guy, I would pretend that your examples are men like me. So if ever I'd see people -no matter how many they are laughing at me, I'd confront them and ask what they are laughing at. I would get offended for them laughing at me, for no "good" reason at all. And if they won't stop laughing, maybe I'd give them one heckuva smack on the face for them to realize that what they do is very insulting!;) I'd rather do this than ignore them and let them continue do it to others, which they'd most likely do again at me if ever they'd see me again.

Well I sure wouldn't simply allow someone insult me infront of my family, though sometimes it's better to ignore them because we are the one's who know who's the better person between you and them!;)

Yes sometimes a good smack would be good, but im small so i think a smack wouldnt be a good idea there. It would be like a fly getting hit by a fly swatter back.(me being the fly).HE,HE!!lol.And be sure they will do this to others it they were not fixed by someone else.

Exactly!!It only makes me feel that they are the ones with a problem not knowing where to put themselves(fitting in)among the population. So they go for the lower arcky.

No I dont think that you were wrong with what you did, especially because you had your daughter with you. I have hade simalar things happen and I have done the samething mostly in hopes that my daughter will get 2 things out of it 1 not be one of those rude tweens or teens 2 to learn that its ok to stand up for your self but to always try and do it in a non violent way. SO GOOD FOR YOU!

I figured that you would want your daughter to learn these things (the proper way) and from her mommy! As I also want my daughter to learn these things and better from us MOMMY'S then someone else so we know that we can do all we can to avoid our girls turning into those girls who were so RUDE to you.

You took a chance. But it worked out. Some people these days are crazy. So be careful. Why did he think you shouldn't have said anything? Many people have eyeballed me and made fun of me. Mostly I've ignored them and when they got bored with it all, they went on to doing something else that was stupid. Once in awhile without me saying anything, it escalated and I had to say something. Once in awhile I've said something. Usually it was one-on-one in a public place then. You kind of have to use your own judgement.

I've had people say, "Stupid English person" in French in front of me, not "stupide" but "idiote!" or other things like that. I've told them in French that some people feel the same about them. So been there and done that. But I also defend French people who aren't like that. I hear English people in my area say basically the same thing. What amazes me is that people come to NY and think no one is bilingual. Both groups forget that the Native American language of this area was first, our area was occupied by French people second, and after a war (I think it was the French and Indian, but it could have been 1812), the map was redrawn and a huge area that used to be French Canada was suddenly American. Our priests were part of the diacease of a Canadian Province, so were our Doctors. But we read history books from the time we are little about America and we weren't part of it until later on. So some people get mad and ask why French people don't speak English down here. I ask why we aren't all speaking Houdesoni (not sure if I spelled the Iroquoian and other languages group correctly)-Native American, that was here first, or French which was second. There is a lot of crazy stuff here, too. But it still amazes me that people don't think others are bilingual. Take care. There are some cool people who speak one or more of the above three languages. It's the jerks that shoot their mouths off.

Yes it is true that everyone deals with situations differently, but sometimes it is very hard to ignore some of the comments made to hurt and diminish someones pride. Some do not have respect for others,so why respect them.:)

I am not sure if I would have said anything or not but know that if I had my oldest with me she would have said something for sure as she doesn't stand for any of this . I have always told my children that individuals like this have nothing better to do and have such poor self esteem about themselves that the only way they know to be happy is to try and bring someone else down . I can't stand people that for some reason feel they need to make themselves feel better by saying something mean about someone else and it shows they have a lot of growing up to do !!

Pick your battles. I've been in this situation before (i.e. strangers being rude). I know something like this can ruin your day but better to let it go. Save your energy for something more worthwhile. If you must give someone a piece of your mind, better be it a rude neighbor, co-worker, or someone you would actually need to interact with more than once.

I agree, but sometimes i like to bite back, plus its not like we will ever see each other again in my situation. Its 6 hours from where i live and it was boring,so there will be no return on our part.Other than that,i dont know the neighbours well enough for a discussion and i like that!Im a quite person,so i rarely give someone my peace of mind and just blow it off.

I would just ignore them. people like that have nothing to do with their life and they tend to hide their insecurities from finding one to others. Don't mind them. Instead just pretend that you don't see or hear them. Does't really matter if your boyfriend or daughter heard what their saying bout you. As long as you're happy with your life and the things you wear it will be ok.
