Migraines are taking my life away.

I have such intense migraines that I feel as if they are literally taking my life away. I can't go outside since the sun hurts so bad, I can't ride in a car because i'm so nausous,(even with the medicine), I can't cook, clean, read a book or even relax in a shower because the pain is so intense. I've tried every preventitive medication out there. Are there any forgotten old world remedies out there? Maybe handed down through your families? I can't take the pain anymore.

I heard of a remedy you might discuss with your doctor - oxygen! Just like people with breathing problems use. I heard that two minutes of oxygen will cure a migraine. It won't keep it away forever, but if it works, maybe your doctor can prescribe an oxygen bottle for you. When you feel a migraine coming on, breath the oxygen for a couple of minutes and see if it helps.

Oxygen! That would be absolutely amazing! I can't believe my doctors have never thought to bring this up. I guess they don't get kickbacks on scripts of it? lol Thank you so much, I'm going to bring this up next week at my appointment. If this works it could literally change my life. Thank you!

I feel for you, I am a migraine person myself and it got me in disability. I don't work anymore, the many many migraines over 48 years - I am 55 now - have exhausted me. What medication do you use, exactly? I use Imigran injections, in your country it is called Imitrex, I believe... Anyway, it is a triptan, and you should have the one to inject (there are some variations on the market). Also, try to drink many little sips of water, so that if you have th throw up, you at least have something to throw up. As a preventive medication I use Depakine, it is amazing how well that works. I went from 12 to 14 attacks per month to 4 or 5... which I can handle with the injections. Ever since I use that, for 2,5 years now, I feel such a relief. If you don't know Depakine, I can copy the working stuff for you here, then you can ask your doctor. Anti nausea medication is domperidon. Again, I will copy the working stuff for you if you don't know it. The triptan takes away the nausea, b.t.w. One thing though: don't get worked up because of the migraines. If you can't clean or cook, so be it. You will do that when the attack is over. I used to not to listen to my body and look where it got me now... A shower is NOT a good idea when you have an attack. Trying to relax won't help either, 'cause you can't relax when you have an attack. all your muscles are working to get the demon out of your brain (with me that is), so who is talking relaxing??

Talking showers during a migraine attack: the warm water makes your blood go faster, which is exactly the one thing you can do without, 'cause faster running blood in your brain... more thumping. A cold shower does exactly the same: the cold water makes your body shiver and therefor your blood run faster to warm you up again... same result in the head. Lukewarm is the same as cold, I tried everything in this area... not only the shower, also the bath, a swim in the sea when it is hot... nothing, nada, nope. Just stay in the shade, don't move and pray you fall asleep or at least in a light doze... I also use 10 mg valium every now and then. Not to relax or anything, just to doze off a little, so that you are not a 1000 percent aware of the pain every 60000 seconds of a minute...'cause boy, the time crawls during an attack! Too bad the triptan don't agree on you... Imitrex really gave me a lift in life! Ever considered another triptan or are you allergic to all of them? If you need info on the Depakine and/or the Domperidom, just let me know!!! And remember: there is always a brighter day ahead of you. Don't let them get you - whoever 'them' may be...

Awwww I feel so bad for you. When I get a headache real bad I will take a real cold rag and place it under my chin till the rag gets warm. Then run the rag under cold water again and place it behind your neck. Keep doing this and I hope it helps you.

Thank you Terry:) I will put a cold cloth on my forehead and neck alot of times. I've never heard of placing it under my chin before though. Does it help reduce the pain somehow? I will try it right now! I have a killer headache this evening. Thank you for the idea!

You can also use ginger powder which you use for cooking. You can buy it in any good supermarket, chinese or asian shop, it is a very much used ingredient in asian cooking. Add one teaspoon to a mug of hot water and there you go: ginger drink. I tried two mugs a day during a month or so. Did not do anything for me, but I know someone for whom it worked wonders....

This works so well for me!! I had blinding migraines that caused me to be hospitalized as often as 3 times a month... the thought of the next one coming had me living in terror. I read about the '3-cent migraine cure', and I was desperate, so I tried it. I take a magnesium tablet, a vitamin B-2 (riboflavin) capsule, and a stress-formula B-complex... one of each every day. After taking it for about 3 weeks, I noticed that I hadn't had any problems for a while!! That was 4 months ago-- 4 months without ANY kind of headache! Not even sinus... I just can't miss a dose! It has to be taken every day! People don't believe that it can be so simple... but it was for me... this may be the first miracle I've ever known! It has changed my life totally, actually given me a life... and its inexpensive, as well! Less than over-the-counter headache medicines, thats for sure!

Hi alamode! Thank you so much for responding. I have done vitamin B therapy before, but nobody ever suggested magnesium as well. This is another thing to talk to my doctor about. I really want to kick these silly headaches. I'm tired of them. Thanks again, Acuity

Reliv. It works. You'll get your life back. Not in stores, not even health food stores. Try yellow pages. You need an independent distributor. If no luck with yellow pages try contacting me and I'll set you up with my distributor who can mail it to you. I promise if you take it twice a day everyday, your headaches will be far and few between and after a short time you won't get any anymore.

My 17 year old daughter has had a headache for almost 3 years now, every single day... Her headache is about a 4 on a pain level of 1-10 on most days, but some days it gets so bad that she can't get out of bed. She's been to many, many doctors and neurologists and they have finally diagnosed her with NDPH, New Daily Persistent Headaches. It's an extremely rare condition, and there are really no pain medications that work for her... believe me, we've tried them all... I hope that you are able to find out the cause of your headaches and get some relief... I know what my daughter goes through and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

You need to go to the doctor!!! My aunt got bad headaches/migraines all the time and never went to the doctor to get looked at. She ended up dieing of a brain anneurism when she was only 36, and it was because of the headaches. Had she gone to the doctor they would have found out earlier and been able to prevent it. You definitely need to get looked at before it's too late!

I know that I have started getting migraines in the last two years. They come on when I am very stressed out. Another thing that seems to mess me up is caffeine. I do not drink much soda, I don't drink any coffee, and I have really cut down on the amount of tea that I drink. It really helps a lot.

I know exactly how you feel as I've suffered really badly in the past. Mine were partially hormonal in that I'd always get them at the start of my monthly period and I'd have 48 hours when I simply couldn't function. As my parents were both migraine sufferers I thought I'd just have to put up with them but short of being pregnant(stopping periods artificially made no difference) nothing seemed to work - not exactly a long term practicality. For me however the cure came from a most unlikely source. I also have PKD, also inherited, and as a result have to control my blood pressure. Imagine my delight then to find that when I changed my bp medication a couple of years ago, not only did my bp stabilize but my migraines stopped. This is obviously a long shot but do you check your blood pressure regularly? Failing that, I found sitting in the steamy (but not hot) atmosphere of a laundrette or bathroom would ease the pain a little.

I have had migraines to that extreme that i would past out from the pain. I went to the doctor since i had been experiencing them since i was 9 years old. The first doctor said to drink more water my body was lacking the fluids from my allergies causing the migraines, it helped for awhile not being as bad as they usually are. Then i started having the migraines again really bad like the first ones passing out. I seen a diffrent doctor and he finally found that i had a hormone imbalance along with low blood pressure causing the migraines i havent had a severe migraine since this doctor has put me on hormones and helped me with my low blood pressure.

I know exactly how you feel! I have extremely bad migraines myself and they make it very difficult to do everyday tasks. I hope some of the responses you get will help you out and ease some of the pain. I don't have any suggestions, I'm in the same boat you are. Good luck!

I get terrible ones sometimes and the only way to get rid of them is to go lay down and sleep. I don't know why I get them but they seem to happen more when I'm stressed. AT PEACE WITHIN ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~
