I'm very excited...in 2 days (9/5) I'll be getting on a Greyhound bus and going to Florida. I don't remember ever going across the country via bus, but my parents tell me that my cousin took me back to see family in Michigan when I was a few months old. Sorry, I don't remember that! lol Any one ever go across the country by bus? What did you like/dislike about it? Any (late) tips for me?

I went from MD to Vermont to a meditation retreat by Greyhound and it was sooooo much fun. I've heard so many complaints about bus travel but encountered none. There was hardly anyone on my bus, the seats were extremely comfortable. I loved going to sleep and waking up in another state each time. I brought snacks - and plenty of water. And of course a good book. I would recommend putting all important papers and money - credit cards - in a flat purse that you can wear around your neck - under your shirt. If you are going to carry a lot of cash - not recommended - but if you do - then be sure not to store the bulk in the same place - be sure the place you pull out cash at rest stops has little money. I would recommend just bringing your bank card or getting a credit card - like from Western Union or Green Dot from a grocery store where you can put the amount of cash you think you'll need on it. I think you'll have fun - be careful though!

All this is good advice, you really do need to take basic security precautions, but otherwise you will have fun

Thanks for the suggestions! I was planning on taking a lot of cash, but it's a good thing my mom talking me into buying a pre-paid credit card so I have one of those and a few loose bills. Tomorrow I'll be getting some (more) snacks and a some water. I don't know how many people will be on the bus(es) I'll be on, but I hope it's not a lot. I want some space to stretch out.

I've never traveled by bus, but it sounds like an interesting way to travel. My stepdad jokes sometimes that he ought to buy a bus just so our entire family can take a vacation.
