For those of you who are, or have been, shop assistants/waiters etc...

...what kind of things would you like to say to the general public? With most customers I have no problems - they are polite, nice people. However, to those who do not fit into this catagory, I would say; - if the shop assistant has his/her hand out ready for your money, then don't completely ignore it and dump the money on the counter instead- it gets annoying after about the 10th time. - don't ask for certain things very clearly, watch the shop assistant get it for you, and then say that you'd said something completely different. That really winds me up. - don't mumble incredibly quietly or just point when you're asked what you want - we're not mind readers. - when asked a question which has two or more possible answers, don't answer with 'yes', it's not very helpful. - basic manners would be appreciated. The majority of customers are polite, but there's always some who are rude! - if the shop doors are not only closed but also locked, it means the shop is closed - so don't bother rattling the doors and mouthing things at the shop assistant(s) inside.

I always want to ask them why they come back if they are so unhappy with the service and the place of business. I have been a waitress and a cashier and for the most part people are very nice but as you said there are those who are mean no matter what you do.
