The raw food diet consists of raw vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds in their uncooked state. Even raw dairy may be included, to that which is unpasteurised but there are also precautions with this and is why most raw foodists leave this out and make their own nut and seed milks but more about this later. Cooking these foods destroys and somewhat kills the enzymes needed to keep your digestive tract in order and keep you healthy. Cooking also minimises the vitamin and mineral content in most of these foods which leaves it open to fermentation in the stomach and less absorbency. Not to mention that pesticidal fresh produce already depletes most of the vitamin content. Organic produce will give you 20 times more the vitamin and mineral content then pesticidal fruit and veggies. If you cannot afford organic fruit then simply wash all your produce more thouroughly to remove its pesticide residue. People who are on the raw food diet experience a new found lifestyle to which they feel better, are more vibrant, have clearer thoughts and mind, look younger, reduced risk of diseases, cured or prevented most diseases i.e cancer, balanced hormones, less depression and fatigue and so on. If this sound like you irritable, tired, low in energy, overweight, underweight, suffer from many incurable diseases, looking old, rough skin etc. Then i recommend you give the raw food diet a go. The best resources for support and raw food people to look out for are, raw food forums, books, dvd's, Alyssa Cohen, Carol Alt, David Wolfe, The boutenko family, Gabriel Cousens. Mosts sites and towns have potlucks.

I did raw food for about a year. I lost a lot of weight and felt great - it really did clean out my system. However, as a long-term way of eating it just didn't work for me. I couldn't sustain it with a world around me that eats cooked. What it did do however, we help me figure out that I have major sensitivity to gluten/wheat and lactose. I now try to avoid those in my diet altogether. I still occasionally use some great raw food recipes I found though - like raw apple pie (sooooo good!) and raw oatmeal (not 100% raw but very close to it). I got a lot of great ideas's from "21 Days to Health and Beyond". I have is stored in an online 'library' if you want to look at it - it's free! groups.yahoo.com/groups/healthwatchsupportlibrary
