Is it because good leaders always serve their subjects or followers? I thought leaders should be the ones who lead..

Servant-leader is an interesting concept. I think most of us see leadership has a boss who tells people to do this and that and servants are often percieved as the people who do menial task. I think the idea behind the servant-leader concept comes from the idea that good leaders should serve the needs of the people they lead. For example, a leader should ensure that the people have their welfare taken care of long before he or she takes care of his or her own welfare. A leader has be an example to the followers and that's often easier said than done. Can you imagine wanting to follow someone who tells you to sacrifice while he or she continues to live the high life?
