Romeo and Juliet-great movie but no awards

Although this early version of the Shakespeare classic is excellent, it won on awards. In fact, Norma Shearer's performance was the only one in the picture that was "over the top", and most critics agreed that she was too old to carry the part. Althought Leslie Howard was also older than the fictitious Romeo, his superb acting talent overcame this issue. Basil Rathbone, John Barrymore, Reginald Denney, C. Aubrey Smith, and Ralph Forbes were a joy to behold, but the real scene-stealer in this opulent-at-the-time production was Edna May Oliver as Juliet's nurse. Although the costumes are slightly corny, the music is great. All the combined factors make this a movie worth the price of the video. ^_^
