My cat has taken over my arm-rest and I can no longer use my mouse!

My cat is driving me nuts. About an hour ago, she jumped up on my arm chair and claimed the arm for herself. And, now she is quietly taking a nap, while I struggle to find other spots where my mouse will work.
Until now, I've had a really nice spot carved out on the arm of my chair for my mouse. And, since it's the laser type mouse it can almost work anywhere. But, right now, I'm reduced to leaning forward to use the desktop, every time I need to use the mouse. I don't know why I don't just boot her off my chair and reclaim the arm for my mouse!
So, what would you do? Boot kitty off the chair arm and be done with it? Where does your cat perch while you are working on your computer? Does your kitty ever decide that she deserves to sit in your lap as you are typing and totally disrupts your work? How do you handle it?

My cat likes to sun herself in the window above my computer. When the people that had the house before finished our basement, they put in really thick walls, so my cat has like a foot wide window ledge to lay in. She spends all day down here if I let her. The only problem with her staying in the window so much, is that she usually steps on the laptop to get up there. She pushes buttons and it drives me crazy if I am trying to work on it. Usually I use the desktop, though, so it's not a problem.

My big cat does that keyboard stepping thing. Course he does it to manipulate me. He's a real smarty. My daughter takes after him in that manner. (Is that even possible! LOL! Anyway, she has picked up his peculiar habits of getting what she wants by messing with mommy's computer.)

The cat I have at the moment has never been a lap cat but just the other day I was sitting out admiring my hard work for the day as I have been getting my garden in order, it was just starting to get dark, it was beautiful watching the sun go down and then all of a sudden my cat jumped up and just lay on my lap, I was so thrilled I dared not move, he stayed there for a little while, he must be getting old I think...I think you should let your kitty sleep where he wants to....Cats Rule....hahahahah :)

I love my lap kitty so much. Sometimes I wish my boy cat were a lap cat. He has never really liked to cuddle all that much and awhile back he had been away for awhile and when he got to see me, he climbed into my lap and went to sleep. It was just like when he was a baby. This cat mommy's heart swelled with pride.

My cat- Gracie- seems to bother me the most when I’m online- She thinks it is her given right to sit wherever she chooses- sometimes that is on my lap- other times it’s on the chair with me- and even on the computer desk! I usually give her a couple of quick pets and then send her on her way. I’m not online much—so I don’t want to waste the time trying to work around her.
