long time no stitch...

I haven't been able to do much cross-stitching this summer, not because I don't want to, though. I wear glasses, bifocals actually, and my last pair had a non-glare coating put on. Well, that coating has gone cacca and I can barely see out of the closeup part. (The distance part isn't much better, for that matter.) I've made an appointment with my optometrist but won't get to see him until the end of September (reason given: back to school). And since I'm on assistance, I'll have to submit my request for new eyeglasses and wait for approval, then take my script to the "approved" dispensing optician, yada yada yada. Guess I won't have new specs until sometime in October. I'm going through withdrawal!!! Well, not entirely. The Christmas stocking my friend asked me to do is on 14-count so I have been able to do a bit with my glasses off, but that soon tires my eyes. And my computer glasses are of no use for close work/reading. I bet I could have finished my "magnum opus" (The Sense of Light) by now. Sigh...

I know what you mean. I had a problem with my eyes a couple months back and couldn't stand to look at anything for a long period. Thankfully I got the problem fixed and things are back to normal. I'd love to see a pic of your pic (The Sense of Light) that your working on. I am working on a set of large peacocks for my Mom. I'm probably a week or two from being done. Here's a link to my work... up to last year, anyway. I just have the last two sections marked off to do, and it's been sitting like that for months.

That's breathtaking...I'd love to see it when it's finished. I noticed that you were stitching on a hoop. I tried one a couple months ago and couldn't get it figured out so I didn't bother. I'd like to learn sometime though. My problem was I couldn't get the fabric to tighten up...either the sides or the top and and bottom were floppy. AT PEACE WITHIN ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I haven't done much cross stitch recently either. I have a couple of books of some really lovely patterns that I would like to do, but they require so many different colors of floss, and I don't have about half of the colors for any given project. So that makes it very difficult to do these patterns!

Well, you could start the one you have the most colors for and slowly add the missing colors. I have quite a collection of floss and yet, whenever I start a new pattern, it seems I don't have all the necessary ones, either...
