It was reported in our local news yesterday that a woman heard a knocking at her door that awakened her. When she went to the door and opened it there was an alligator bumping against the storm door. She called 911 and people were sent to her home to remove the animal. I don't know what it weighed, but it took two men to carry it once they captured it. It turned out that the animal had escaped from the home of a man who lived in that county that kept exotic pets. Folks, this is one of the reasons there are laws against keeping exotic pets!

She handled it very well, Thoroughrob. The alligator had escaped from the enclosure where the owner kept it housed.

You are right, of course, weemam. Those kinds of animals should be kept in a zoo or natural habitat.

Cool. Now this would make for a fun day. Love it. I wish we had a few here up north. lol. I guess keeping them as pets doesn't make a lot of sense. But they sure are interesting creatures.

Wow...I would have freaked if I'd opened the door and found that. If your going to keep any kind of pet, you should keep it secured so that it doesn't pose a threat to anyone else. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Can you imagine how scared that woman must have been. I think I would have freaked out if that happened to me. I lived in Florida for 10 years and one time when I walked into the Laundry Room I found a 3 foot King snake. I ran out to a neighbor's who knew snakes and he was able to capture it.

As I've said before, people should be having too many pets or exotic pets to begin with. Some people can't even take care of or keep track of a dog or cat. What in the world makes these people think they can care for and keep track of an alligator or any other strange animal?! Some people just have some problems and need to get the issues straightened out. This situation could have been worse like past incidents with alligator, snake, and other exotic pets. I'm glad no one was hurt.

Well, that would be quite the surprise at the door. There have been people in our province who have kept exotic pets like tigers, which is very definitely against the law. I have often wondered how they get these animals into the country.

Man, that is one visitor that I would not invite my house. I used to live in Louisiana and I have respect for them. The only way they would enter my house would be in portions and they would soon be cooking. The main guest at a dinner one might say. But for a pet hel* no!!

Good Grief! I think I would have fainted on the spot! The poor Alligator was probably so exhausted it didn't have the energy to get home - at leat it had the sense to knock on a door and get help! xxxx

I would have freaked out!!! I heard the story and she said she has a son who could have opened the door! I know that they said the man was rehabbing the alligator and that it got loose when he was out of town. I did not hear if he was licensed or what, but that is too scary!

It must have been a frightening experience, but boy, what an adventure of a lifetime for this lady. How many people can actually say they had an alligator drop by at their home for a visit? I would feel uncomfortable if I live in an area where wild and exotic animals roam around the place, or live within someone's compound near my home. I will have to be on the lookout for danger lurking around each time I am outdoors. It will also not be safe for children to be playing outside their homes in such an environment. I'm glad my living environment is not like that.

It is just nice to know that no one was injured. I don't understand how an alligator could be a pet. It just doesn't make sense.
