How long does it take your computer to boot up?

For some reason, I assumed that getting broadband would make my computer faster, but it has not. And, now every time my power goes down and my computer goes off, I have to reboot and it takes ages before the computer allows me to get back online. First it has to boot up the never used "Webshots" photo desk top manager, my Comodo Firewall (can't live without it) and several other hidden programs that run on start up. And, if I try to click on any of the icons within five minutes of booting up, my computer freezes up. I have a newer computer. It's only about four years old, which is not so old in comparison. But, it's driving me nuts. Why do computers boot up so slowly? I have to be able to get back onto the Internet quickly, but my computer won't let me. Does anyone know what could be the problem or how to make the computer boot up faster? And, just for comparison, how long does it take for your computer to boot up?

lol. Broadband connection, in general, Internet connection, doesn't affect your system boot up time. You can' call "newer computer" if it has over 4 years old :) The boot up time depend on your system (especialy how much RAM and what kind of CPU do you use it), what operating system do you use and what programs do you have in start up. My system take about 12-15 seconds to log into my Windows XP. ;)

my laptop boot quite fast... i think about 30 secs the most... i try to keep it clean by not installing too many applications and software in it... delete unused files and defrag it every now and then... if you have done all of that and your computer is still booting very slow, you might want to check whether or not your computer is infected by a virus... good luck... hope you can solve your problem soon...

I have an older computer ,not sure how old it is as it is one that was rebuilt . It is really slow and it annoys me most of the time . I have high speed and like you figured my computer would reboot faster but it doesn't . I would say it takes at least ten minutes for my computer to reboot after it has been shut down or if the power goes out yet the computer we have for the children is even slower when you are online and reboots quite fast . That one will reboot in about five minutes . I am not sure why as the one my husband and I use is the better of the two computers yet is much slower to reboot .

This is on my 1.5 year old laptop 30 seconds to turn on and get to the login screen 5-15 seconds to login to a fully working desktop (depends on what session I boot into)

I swear my computer is moody. Sometimes it will boot really fast, other times it seems to take an eternity. I do defrag, delete old files, and all that stuff about once a month, so that really helps it a lot. My computer is not even three years old, but sometimes it takes longer than our laptop, which is over 4 years old. I guess it's because I use the desktop a lot more often than we do the laptop. Our other desktop computer that my husband uses sometimes takes FOREVER to boot. I turn it on, go upstairs, get my son out of bed, change him, give him some milk, and grab a snack, and come back downstairs, and that thing still isn't done booting! That's why I never use it, unless our network isn't working for some reason and I need a file from there.

Around 20 seconds to boot up into windows and another 10-15 seconds for all applications to finish loading, so half a minute is a rough estimate. My computer is still quite new (got it last christmas) and I try install only the things I need, delete programs I don't need, keep the main hard drive clean and with as much free space as possible, defragment the drives regularly and so on.

Yeah my laptop boot up very slow too! For my laptop, it's because I install lots of software in it. The more application I install, the slower it gets to boot up... My ex used to do 'clean up' for me but since he is "EX" now so tats why my laptop boots so slowly now.. heeee.... cheers ... myhandbaghaven.blogspot.com
