Big disapointment

I had a big disappointment today. I went to test drive a Rav4 Toyota. It has 17 inch tires and it's up too high for me to be able to get in. I am disabled and didn't realize how badly till today so it's been disappointing. We also looked at a Dodge Grand Caravan, certainly not the vehicle of choice but it is eazy to get in and out of. Has anyone had any bad/good experiences with the Dodge caravan? I really appreciate the help from my friends here at myLot.

I am sorry to hear that the vehicle was too high for you. They should make it adjustable somehow. One of my coworkers as a Dodge Caravan and I got to drive her car once during a business meeting since she was too tired to drive. It felt pretty nice and was comfortable. I only drove it once but did not have any problems with it. Good luck with your car shopping and hope you find something very nice and comfortable for you.

I have a 9 year old caravan...well a little over 9 years old with about 130K on it. It was the bottom of the line one, I paid cash for it. I have to admit, I have not really had many problems with it, I replaced the radiator a few weeks ago and had to lubricate something in the transmission. Find a nice mechanic though, the dealer charged me $300 to change the spark plugs.

Any chance that you can add a step to the RAV4 to assist with entry and exit. We have them on our truck for me.

Oh that too bad, I am sorry you couldn't get what you wanted, I know how it is when can't have the car you really wanted, the main thing is you get smething that won't give you any mechanical trouble I hope someone here can reassure you one way or the other..good luck...

Since you say you are disabled, I'm surprised you can get up in a van...I can't anymore. I step of just a couple of inches is really difficult for me. I have to back up and sit down to get into my car, so any car I use has to be "rear-end" height! LOL. That lets out a lot of things!

Years ago I had a 1986 Caravan. I loved it. It was only a 4 cylinder engine but we went through mountains in it and it got good gas milage. It was comfortable and with 3 kids at the time it was good for them. I think something like that would be good. They are not as tall as even the smaller SUV so they to me are easier to get into. Have you though of donating your buick to a charity? There are a couple here in Texas that take them running or not.

Oh for goodness sake I have never heard of such a thing but I like the idea of donating. I'll have to check into that. I suppose they fix vehicles up or use for parts. I have posted a couple pictures.

Hi.. Thanks again for your loving support...it means so much to me. Just got on line and wanted to see how things are going with you. Sorry to read of your disappoinment about your Rav4 Toyota. I was wondering what kind of disability you have. My Mom was a petite little person and used a walker and/or wheel chair. We have had a Jeep, F150 Ford truck and a Pontiac Van. With the truck and Jeep were higher was somewhat prohibitive for her too. We always kept a step stool in the back whenever taking Mom out. Would that be an option for you? The closet thing we have had to your Caravan is our Pontiac van. We loved it. It was roomy, handled and cornered well..fairly good on gas. There is a tendency for the alternators to go every couple of years...and the door handles. A few of our friends have had similar maintenenced problems with their Vans. So good luck in your car searches...hope you find the right vehicle...you deserve all good things1 Best regards, Raia

Sorry to hear that the one you wanted was too high up for you. As for the Caravan, I think that is what my son and his girlfriend have. Theirs is an older one and they have had it for a few years. They did have to have some transmission problems last year, but then again, it is over 20 years old so you can't expect it to be in perfect shape. Other than that, they said that it is a pretty good running van.
