Why Should We Fast ?

Most devout Indians fast regularly or on special occasions. On such days they do not eat at all, eat once or satisfy with fruits or a special diet of simple food. Every system needs a break and an overhaul to work at its best. Rest and a change of diet during fasting are very good for the digestive system and the entire body. Fasting helps us to cultivate control over the senses. ,sublimate our desires and guide our minds to be poised and at peace. Hence, why not try out occasional fasting ?

Yes, you are right. Fasting is very good for mental, spiritual and physical health. It removes the toxic elements from your body. Fasting helps in detoxification becasue by fasting food is no longer entered into the body, and the body turns to fat reserves for energy thus utilising the fat stored in the body. Fasting is good in every sense.

yes fasting helps the body but people depending upon their health condition should do fasting.one some special festivals or once in a while doing fasting is acceptable but there are people who do it everytime.I know a girl who undergoes fasting atleast twice in a week and being a working girl this brought a drastic health problem to her.with doctors advise she gave up fasting regularly and did it only on important occasions.

Yes Sukumar! I am completely agree with your views on fasting. According to our calendar, an adult person must fast atleast for twice in a month, fortnightly once and on special occassions as additional fasting. This reduces and regulates our cholesterol, fat and blood perssure levels. Also on fasting days, poisonous substances exit out our body through urine those are deposited as residual poisons by different modern day foods. If this fasting is attached with a spiritual reason, then this gives us spiritual as well as mental peace, which is the most higher form of peace. Thanks for this discussion.

I have fasted - and found the experience very exhilarating. My mind became clear and concentration very focused and sharp. I have not done it for some time, so perhaps it is time I did. :-)

I understand that fasting is beneficial for our bodies, & possibly for our minds too. I find it too difficult to do, as trying to fast makes me feel weak & dizzy.

And not only does it do all that you mentioned, but it basically supercharges our body to lose unwanted body fat and excess weight. Thanks for the wonderful info hon.
