We would give you our contact info... but then you might contact us...

I have spent a long time today seeking addresses and phone numbers for energy suppliers around the country. Of course, my main resource is the web. You would think it would be easy right? You would think you could go to a energy suppliers home page and BOOM there would be an address and phone number. Or at least a detailed Contact Us link right??? Well you would be wrong. It seems that many of these suppliers don't make it easy to find their mailing address or phone number. Many of the "contact us" links take you to a webform or just give you an email address. Why do they do this exactly? Are these suppliers AFRAID that their customer's may actually want to call them rather than fill out a webform? It just reminded me of a few months ago when my mom was on our states electricity site trying desperately to find a contact number and it took us both together forever to find it. When she finally called, of course now she was in a bad mood from having to look so hard for it... Wouldn't they rather make it easy so that you wouldn't be completely ticked off by the time you actually called them? So, why do you think so many businesses hide their contact info on their website? Are they afraid of us? Are they lazy and hoping we will just figure it out on our own? Or are they just stupid? Thoughts??

I was wondering this myself. I placed an order from a website we've used many times before and haven't received it yet. After searching all over their site I finally found a number, but it said it was disconnected. I finally had to settle on sending them an email and am now waiting to see if they email me back or not. That was just about an hour before I found this discussion, oddly enough. It's very irritating. I don't know why they'd hide their phone number. I know the longer I have to hunt for it, the more aggrivated I get. What would have been a simple question turns into much more, as my irriation turns to full blown anger. Why they can't understand that is beyond me. Deal with me BEFORE I get totally ticked off. Sometimes you can find contact information by plugging their name and address into superpages.com or whitepages.com but not always.

Yes it's especially irritating when you've spent money there and you can't get a response from anyone. What's even worse than that? Finding the contact info easily, and then it doesn't work! I hope it works out for you. Yep, it turns into anger and then the customer service has to deal with your anger. And of course they think you are being unrationally angry, but they don't realize that it took you an hour to find their phone number! Worst yet, a lot of times I find the customer service person never saw the website before so they can't relate to why you are complaining. I will try those whitepages websites in the future, maybe it will speed things up a bit :)
