What do you do with your unwanted gifts?

When you get gifts that you hate what do you do? Do you tell the person who gave it to you that you don't like it? Do you re-gift it and give it to someone else? Do you just keep it lying around the house and never use it? What if the person asks about the gift at a later time but you no longer have it, what do you tell them?
