What's the biggest hidden danger in your house?

As a parent, what's the biggest danger in your home? Are there hidden health dangers that concern you like cigarette smoke or radon (which can cause lung cancer)? Do you think there are physical dangers like furniture or windows that could be fixed more securely for your children's safety? Before I had a little kid, I wasn't too concerned about visible of hidden dangers in the house. I'm a big girl, so I can pretty much take care of myself. And, except for the occasional bout of clumsiness, I do a pretty good job of it. However, when it comes to taking care of my little kid, I'm super picky about her surroundings. I don't want her breathing in anything dangerous or eating anything that could be harmful. And I try to be so super careful to make sure she doesn't bounce on furniture or beds, to avoid accidents. One of my biggest concerns would have to be mold. Here in the south, it's easy to get a bad case of mold on your bathroom walls if you take too many hot showers during the summer. And, this stuff can affect your lungs, brain and internal organs. They're just now finding out how damaging it can be to the human body. When I was pregnant, our window leaked during a big rain storm and I ended up with a case of bad mold behind the bed. And, I didn't even know about it for an entire month. So, now I try to be careful not to let things go so long before handling them. Do you worry about hidden dangers that you can't see like mold, radon, carbon monoxide, germs, etc.? And, how do you deal with them?

We have carbon monoxide alarms on both floors of our house, so I am not really too concerned about that. Some germs are good for kids, so I'm not really worried about them either. Kids that are exposed to more germs (within reason of course) actually have better immune systems than kids who aren't. I make sure my house is clean, but I don't go overboard with lysol and things like that. I usually just aim to get rid of germs in the bathroom and the kitchen. I'm not too concerned about the germs found elsewhere in the house. As far as mold goes, I do check for mold a lot. Especially in the kitchen, the bathroom, and in the basement, if it's been raining. I've never really had a mold problem anywhere I've lived, but I still get nervous about it.

It's definitely something to be concerned about, considering it can grow inside walls and basements and areas that are inaccessible to the human eye. I'm too preoccupied with the entire subject!
