The Personal is The Political

For a University assignment, we had to answer the question, Is the Personal, Political?' Basically our tutors wanted us to find a subject that would normally be considered a personal matter but had become a hot topic for political debate or defined by the political debate. I chose the abortion rights debate. I don't want to debate that, this is not what this is about, I would like to know what you think of the question and how would you answer it yourself? Just in case you don't know, The Personal is The Political is a statement attributed to Carol Hanisch from notes from the second year: womens lberation :) I really want to understand this more especially as we were only allowed to concentrate on one aspect of feminism rather than getting a broader more general view of it so please reply and tell me your thoughts.
