How do you repair a small tear or rip in a natural nail?

About four months ago, I started growing out my natural nails. And, for once they actually looked really good. Well, that is, until about a month ago. And, then they started chipping and splitting and getting really weak. I was going through extreme stress at the time, so perhaps that was the problem. Anyway, I was wondering, is there anyway to repair a tiny split or tear in a natural nail? Most times my nails get brittle and then snag on something and from there the tiny tear gets bigger until the entire nail tip rips off. And, then I have to spend months regrowing it. Would be nice to have a simple way to repair or mend the natural nail tip if possible. I've tried simply polishing over the tear, but it doesn't really seal the tear. Any suggestions?

Hi Beautyqueen26, what I do when and if my nail has a small tear I do some frops of nail glue on it and wait for it to dry up, and than I go with the file and make it smooth and thin. After that I apply nail color. It's very strong and keeps my nail fine until I cut the broken part off (when the nail has grown long enough)

I use a product called Rap Stik. You can get it at Sally Beauty Supply stores. It consists of tape that is very thin woven silk. It is sticky on one side. You just cover the nail with a layer or 2 of the sticky silk, then you apply the goo which looks a lot like Krazy Glue but thicker. Then you spritz it with a product called Rap Dry which dries an hardens the goo. Then you just file it (because the surface will be a bit bumpy) and that's all. It's really strong. I used to get silk wraps done on all my nails and the gal used the same product. After I stopped getting all my nails done I bought the kit for myself at Sally for just the purpose you mentioned. My nails grow long fast but it never fails that one will break painfully low so I use that stuff to stick it back on until it grows out. You can buy a kit with all of the pieces and the pieces come separately as well.
