I know that doctors are human too, but this is really a difficult thing: my family doctor has been sick many times in the last two years. Often when I have an appointment the secretary will call me up and reschedule my appointment because Dr. has a migraine, or the flu or a sore neck or something else. I have even had appointments postponed numerous times.
This is my third family doctor in five years, and when he treats me, when he is well, he's an amazing doctor. I really like him. I don't know what I should do. Where I am living, the province of Quebec, it is really difficult to get a family doctor at all, let alone a good one. The way the system works, you can't get a specialist without being referred by a general practitioner, so you really need a family doctor. I don't know what I am going to do in the long run. Like many people I have several ailments that need regular attention, so it's important to have a good doctor. I know there are some of you out there who must be in the same position. Frustrating isn't it?

Maybe he is just experimenting his cures on himself before he perfects it and gives it to you :) Just kidding. But, as you say they are all human. Also migraine is something that you cannot really cure, so as and when it comes you just have to endure it!!
But, yes as a doctor he should be able to control the occurence of Flu and Sore Neck until and unless an accident caused his Sore Neck!!
Cheers!

Well that stinks! Where I go there are 5 doctors that can see me- So if I need to get it that day- my chances are great- but for the normal family visits- checkups- I go to 1 doctor- I’ve never had them call and cancel because my doctor was sick- Sure I’ve had to wait numerous times because some emergency came up- but they always see me.
I’d try to get another doctor- seems odd that your doctor is sick all the time!

I had the same problem a few years ago. I absolutely loved my doctor as she was very friendly and was about my age and I also knew her family from church. She went to Africa on a mission trip and got some kind of bug that just about killed her. She was hospitalized 28 times in 3 years and ended up having to quit. Fortunately there are about 8 other doctors in her office and they were usually able to get me in to see someone else on the days she went home sick or didn't come in at all. And also fortunately she has now recovered and is back working 2 days a week so I can usually get in to see her now.
I can't imagine being frequently ill myself and having to see a doctor on a more regular basis. My only suggestion would be to find a clinic where there are several doctors that can see you if need be. My insurance here in the US is similar in that I have a family doctor who needs to refer me to a specialist, but fortunately the clinic is my family doctor so I can see anyone there.
Good luck!
